I don't know whether you have already heard about it, but there is a very nice capability in System Automation for z/OS that allows you to watch for and automate messages that are written into any of the SPOOL data sets of a particular job. This capability has been introduced already in System Automation for z/OS V3.4. Then it supported only JES2 environments.
