Optimizing CICS TG on z/OS performance using OMEGAMON XE for CICS
A few years ago I wrote a lengthy article about how the CICS TG monitoring agent delivered as part of the OMEGAMON XE for CICS product opens up the black-box of CICS Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) on z/OS giving system administrators the information required to tune their CICS TG resources in order to optimize throughput and minimize bottlenecks within this key middleware component. Well, as time moves on URLs change and the original article seems to have disappeared into the ether. The details within in it however, are still very much valid and... [More]

Simplifying OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS startup using the RETRY option.
OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS code running in a CICS address space will establish a connection to the common interface started task (KOCCI). In order for this process to work correctly the KOCCI STC must be initialized before OMEGAMON is started in CICS. The enhancement described here introduces the option to allow the CICS address space to finish initialization and connect to the KOCCI STC whenever it becomes available. An early approach was the addition of the OCCIREQ DD card in the CICS JCL, which makes the OMEGAMON code in the CICS address... [More]

How to add even more data into your Enhanced 3270UI displays
In a situation where you've installed OMEGAMON products into separate SMPE environments - yet all provide data to the same HUB TEMS, there's an easy method to allow a single instance of the Enhanced 3270UI to report on all of the products. Each application product delivers the following Enhanced 3270UI elements: *KANWENU - Workspaces *KANEXEC - REXX code *KANDATV - Data table definitions (ODI) *KANHENU - Data table attribute helps So you could simply concatenate all the appropriate libraries into your TOM started task JCL to gain... NetView v6r2 and the NVINFO command to help troubleshooting
Hello, This is John Arnesen with NetView z/OS level 2 support. NetView v6r2 has introduced command "NVINFO" to collect data for the active NetView session. NVINFO issues a series of subcommands to assist with data collection and troubleshooting. The commands include the following: - Environment variables (see the LISTVAR command) - System resource use by the NetView program (see the RESOURCE command) - Data set status, disposition, DD names, and data set names of the files that are currently allocated to the NetView program (see the... IBM System Automation for z/OS – Enhanced Relational Data Services
System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) has recently released the small product enhancement APAR OA43387 which contains improvements for the Relational Data Services (RDS). RDS helps you to organize large amount of data. Instead of using large sets of variables, you can use RDS in order to collect, update and retrieve data in relational tables similar to SQL tables. The access method is command INGRDS. If you want to use command INGRDS it is recommended to install this support. Benefits New functions for mass insert, mass update and much more.... [More]

Recommendations for the WebSphere Message Broker Monitoring Agent in OMEGAMON XE for Messaging
The following lists my recommendations for monitoring WebSphere Message Broker or IBM Integration Bus with OMEGAMON XE for Messaging: For monitoring WebSphere Message Broker v7 and v8, and IBM Integration Bus v9, use v7.1.0 of the WebSphere Message Broker monitoring agent. That is FMID HKQI710 on z/OS. You'll need the latest PTF levels for later broker releases, which includes PTFs UA71110 and UA69753. On distributed platforms for the same agent in ITCAM for Applications, this level is equivalent to the v7.1.0... [More]

Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS : a smart solution for archiving distributed jobs in a z/OS environment
Starting from Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS 8.6.0, APAR level PM63135, using the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS agent and the Output Collector component, you can automate and control the entire job archiving process, with the z/OS agent running the distributed workload and the output collector feature archiving the job log. The Output Collector Started Task is responsible for: - automatically collecting the distributed joblog and storing them to the JES spool as a SYSOUT - attaching an header at the top of the job log with information... ITCAM for Transaction Tracking - Dynamic Workspace Linking
IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager (ITCAM) for Transactions Tracking (TT) workspaces display information for tracing transaction behavior and understanding end-user response times. You can use ITCAM for TT to quickly isolate problems in your enterprise and now you can use Dynamic Workspace Links (DWL) in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) to diagnose problems using deep-dive tools such as OMEGAMON XE for IMS®. Dynamic Workspace Linking (DWL) may be used to provide easy navigation between TEP workspaces and enhance integration... [More]

Tuning Tip for ITCAM for Transaction Tracking on z/OS
ITCAM for Transactions data collectors on z/OS have filtering mechanisms for selecting portions of workloads for tracking and ignoring the rest. The overhead incurred by ITCAM for Transactions in a z/OS address space can be reduced, often significantly, through workload filtering where only units-of-work that are of interest are selected for tracking and the rest are excluded. This can be especially important where the overhead for ITCAM for Transactions to track an entire workload is considered too costly. With ITCAM for Transactions v7.4,... [More]

New System Automation for z/OS support for GDPS active-query solution
IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) now supports the next stage of the GDPS active-active continuous availability (GDPS/A-A) roadmap. GDPS/A-A is the next generation of GDPS and a fundamental paradigm shift for near continuous availability solutions. With V1.4, GDPS active-query is introduced that provides query (read-only) support for workloads on the secondary site, while update workloads continue to be executed on the primary site (GDPS active-standby configuration). In addition, GDPS active-query makes use of new workload... [More]
