Only 3 steps to configure TWSz 9.2 to use new MLOG switch feature
TWSz 9.2 gives the possibility to use two message log data sets, EQQMLOG and EQQMLOG2: using two MLOG data sets removes the necessity of stopping the controller to be able to save, or clear, the contents of a single data set. Only 3 steps are needed to configure TWSz to use the MLOG switch function. STEP 1 → Run EQQJOBS to enable the new feature

System Automation for z/OS 3.4 – How to Setup Command Receiver for use by TSO Jobs and Customization Dialog
System Automation 3.4 provides a command receiver infrastructure that enables REXX/TSO programs to pass NetView, SA z/OS or MVS commands to SA z/OS for execution and to receive the response. The command receiver is able to dispatch incoming commands to a dedicated group of working tasks. This allows many TSO batch jobs and/or TSO users to issue SA commands at the same time. The small enhancement APAR OA44246 improves this dispatching algorithm so that now idle tasks are preferred. If you want to read more about this topic then... [More]

TUC White Paper: "Exploit New Analytics to Monitor and Manage Technologies"
In recent times, Operations Teams have been getting overwhelmed by the volumes of data that they have to manually process, whether that is log data, file data, transaction log data, metrics coming into the system and so on. They have always had large volumes of data coming into their systems, but these ‘Big Data’ volumes have seen very rapid growth. All of this data, which needs to be stored on the backend / mainframe system, is that which forms the system of records where critical business transactions reside. This means that very... [More]

How I can see the matching criteria type and time intervals in CP by TWSz 9.2
In TWSz 9.1 several matching criteria have been added for defining in the Application Description how a dependency between predecessor and successor operations is resolved. The criterion chosen to pick a matching predecessor that best resolves the dependency can be that the matching predecessor is the one with: The nearest preceding input arrival time. This option was already available in previous versions. The nearest input arrival time within the same day of the successor. The closest input arrival time within a specified interval. The... [More]

How WLM can influence DB2 for z/OS distributed thread performance
Are your DB2 threads getting enough resources? Are the Work Load Manager Enclave (WLM) definitions too restrictive? If on the Enhanced 3270UI using the DB2 ® active threads summary (select 'T' from the Enterprise Summary) or the DB2 Thread Detail Accounting screen you see that the elapsed time for a distributed thread is greater than the threshold you have set (the plan name DISTSERV and the correlation ID starting with db2jcc_ indicates this is a distributed thread), ... Solve CPU loops quickly with OMEGAMON Performance Management Suite by combining z/OS and CICS information
Many systems programmers spend hours debugging problems that involve looping or hung transactions. By working together, z/OS and CICS systems programmers resolve these problems much faster by combining the information available from OMEGAMON XE on z/OS and OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS. A typical scenario is that the z/OS systems programmer identifies an address space with a high (or low) CPU Percent. Most often, this is in response to a situation alert or a reported problem. Starting with the Address Space Overview workspace in OMEGAMON XE on... [More]

Using OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on zOS to identify DB2 deadlocks and timeouts
Deadlocks and timeouts are unresolved contentions in DB2. These unresolved contentions might cause incomplete transactions and might degrade the overall performance of your system. It is important to monitor and resolve these contentions. Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS (OMPE) is invaluable in detecting and analyzing DB2 for z/OS deadlocks and timeouts. The following link takes you to some of IBM's recommended best practices using OMPE to identify where these are occurring then what steps to take to resolve the... [More]
