OMEGAMON XE on zOS use of RMF as a collector
Just a reminder that OMEGAMON XE for zOS (4.2.0 and 5.1.0) will use RMF to collect metrics like Coupling Facility, XCF and Locking. This is a way to lower the OMEGAMON collection cpu used for customers already collecting this information with RMF. We plan to continue to use RMF more over time for OMEGAMON collection.

What can you do when the application EXEC DB2 call has an unexpected return address with OMEGAMON for CICS?
I was recently directed to a Technote within OMEGAMON for CICS on z/OS for V 4.2.0 and higher by my level 3 representative that outlined a condition when OMEGAMON CICS is configured to collect DB2 statistics but the CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS is unable to collect the DB2 data and the application EXEC DB2 calls might have an unexpected return address when viewed in an XRMIOUT exit or a dump. Please note that this information will subsequently be documented in the OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS: Troubleshooting Guide. You would... [More]

Message KCP8903I added to the Troubleshooting Guide for the OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS product
For tasks that disable resource limiting using KCORMCLL API there is no indication the resource limiting thresholds have been reached. UA 64466 and UA 64467 reference OA38999. Resource Limiting was changed to issue the OC8902 message when a WARN threshold is reached and the new KCP8903I message was issued when a KILL threshold is reached. The task will not be killed by RLIM. After you apply this maintenance, the change will take effect when you issue the OMEG RECYCLE in the CICS region or when the CICS region is recycled. This is the new... [More]

April is an important month for CICS: Major announcements across the whole portfolio. |
New article in IBM Systems Magazine: CICS Serviceability: An Ever-Evolving Process
Check out this first part, of a two part series, on the evolution of the CICS transaction server’s serviceability process and enhancements by Bill Bulfin and Ed Addison. Bill Bulfin has provided Level 2 worldwide remote technical support for CICS and the CICS tools portfolio of products, while Ed Addison has had a Level 2 career supporting VSAM and CICS. Why does the Exclude product list in PARMGEN show V999 instead of V510 for the product(s) I'm installing?
The Exclude product list shows V999 in PARMGEN for OMEGAMON XE on z/OS and OMEGAMON XE for CICS when I tried to install them. The product codes (KM5) for OMEGAMON XE on z/OS and (KC5) for OMEGAMON XE for CICS appear even though the V510 FMIDs for those products (HKM5510 and HKC5510) show up in the target zone. In the PARMGEN configuration method, the V999 designation indicates that the product FMID is not installed. Someone started the installation of KM5 and KC5, but the installation had not completed successfully. Once the KM5 and KC5... [More]
