Many systems programmers spend hours debugging problems that involve looping or hung transactions. By working together, z/OS and CICS systems programmers resolve these problems much faster by combining the information available from OMEGAMON XE on z/OS and OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS. A typical scenario is that the z/OS systems programmer identifies an address space with a high (or low) CPU Percent. Most often, this is in response to a situation alert or a reported problem. Starting with the Address Space Overview workspace in OMEGAMON XE on... [More]
Welcome to the new age of CS&I OMEGAMON Beta programs! We have an exciting new program to offer you... As part of our use of agile development, each beta driver that we make available with the OMEGAMON Performance Management Suite beta will be a near GA-ready solution. This is quite different from the beta programs you have experienced in the past. You might recall that in the "old age" of beta programs, prior to agile development, you would get a beta driver of very early GA development code and quite... [More]
A few years ago I wrote a lengthy article about how the CICS TG monitoring agent delivered as part of the OMEGAMON XE for CICS product opens up the black-box of CICS Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) on z/OS giving system administrators the information required to tune their CICS TG resources in order to optimize throughput and minimize bottlenecks within this key middleware component. Well, as time moves on URLs change and the original article seems to have disappeared into the ether. The details within in it however, are still very much valid and... [More]

The IBM System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP environment) accepts select data- and transaction-processing workloads from the z/OS operating system, which manages and coordinates the work between the primary processor and the zIIP processors. The use of zIIPs can lower your site's cost of operating its zSysterm hardware by reducing the work required of the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The Service Level Analysis component of OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS, Version 510, now automatically detects and exploits zIIP processors... [More]
