The OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 UI allows the definition of a Secondary HUB TEMS. If you wish to periodically monitor a HUB TEMS, in another data center for example, then defining a secondary HUB TEMS is one solution. Once a secondary HUB TEMS is defined switching between the primary and secondary HUB TEMS is easy using the switch command. The secondary HUB TEMS will also become the active HUB TEMS, if for example, the primary HUB TEMS goes down.
How to define a secondary HUB TEMS:
Get to the "All Known HUBs" workspace by entering the HUB command on the command or action line or by using the Tools pulldown and selecting 'Current HUB Information'. You will see the Hub Connectivity Administration workspace, where you will double click on the NEXT button.
Note: If your emulator doesn't have point and shoot configured, you can put your cursor on the NEXT button and press the enter key. Point and shoot is an
emulator function. To configure it on PComm: Edit -> Preferences -> Hotspots and check the "ENTER at cursor position" field. If you don't use PComm, follow the directions for your emulator.
This will take you to the "All known HUBs" workspace, which shows all the HUBs that your Enhanced 3270 UI knows about.
On the row of the HUB for which you wish to make your secondary Hub TEMS, enter option B to 'Select this Hub as Secondary'. Entering a slash ( / ) will give you the list of all available options:
If you wish to use the secondary HUB TEMS selected for this session only hit OK below. If you wish to save the secondary HUB setting in your profile double click on the SAVE button. If you SAVE the setting the next time you log on the HUB TEMS selected will be defined as your secondary HUB TEMS.
How do I make the SWITCH to the secondary Hub TEMS:
On the command line enter the SWITCH command and your secondary HUB TEMS will then be used instead of your primary. The TEMS that is 'ACTIVE' is the one that will currently be used. To switch back to using the Primary Hub TEMS, after using the secondary, enter the SWITCH command again:
What if my primary Hub TEMS goes down ?
After querying the primary Hub TEMS and failing the HUB TEMS being used will automatically switch to the secondary Hub TEMS and a workspace like the one below will be displayed. The number of queries that have to fail before the switch will be made is determined by the HUBCHECKCYCLE setting.
After defining a Secondary HUB TEMS the currently ACTIVE HUB TEMS is displayed in the bottom middle of the workspace so it is always easy to tell which HUB TEMS is being driven.
How do I change the HUBCHECKCYCLE setting:
Use the Edit pulldown and choose Preferences or enter e.p at the command line. Choose the 'Hub Check' tab as seen below:
The 'Hub Check when no data displayed', which maps to the HUBCHECKCYCLE setting in your profile, is used to determine how many queries must fail before a
HUB switch will take place. The default is 3. Set it to 0 to remove the hub check altogether.
