NetView for z/OS V6.1 On-Demand Tracing

NetView for z/OS V6.1 has been available for a few days now, so I'm sure you've all placed your orders. Today I want to say a little more about another nice feature that's new in this release -- on-demand tracing.
As I'm sure you know, NetView allows you to monitor your TCP connections. And as I've previously mentioned, packet trace collection has been available for several releases (with the addition of trace analysis in V6.1). NetView V6.1 now links these two to provide on-demand tracing -- that is, the ability to start a packet trace from a connection that you're already monitoring. So if you're monitoring connections and find there's a problem with one, you may need to see what's being sent over the connection -- and you need to get there fast! From NetView's TCP/IP Connection Management display of connection data (the IPSTAT command), you simply select "Packet Trace" from a pop-up context menu. A packet trace is then started with the appropriate parameters for your connection -- local and remote addresses and ports, protocol, etc. And even if the relevant Comm Server and NetView components (SYSTCPDA and PKTS, respectively) are not already active, NetView will start them for you automatically, and at your option, stop them when you're done.
