What's New in PARMGEN?
PARMGEN PTF UA73689 (APAR OA45024) brings significant improvements to the PARMGEN Workflow interface. The new PTF delivers the following enhancements for all users, whether you are a new first-time-user in PARMGEN or whether you are an experienced subject matter expert.
The new PARMGEN enhancements are now generally available with IBM OMEGAMON Performance Management Suite for z/OS V5.3 and IBM Service Management Suite for z/OS V1.2 solutions.
Here's a preview of what's new in PARMGEN UA73689 Interim Feature (IF):
Follow through a simple, easy-to-navigate documentation that has an even more task-oriented organization in our new IBM® Knowledge Center. Value -> The new IBM Knowledge Center provides the flexibility for customers to dynamically create a collection of their favorite product deployment topics (Planning, Installing, Upgrading, Configuring, Scenarios and How-tos).
Quickly build new runtime environments (RTEs) from several IBM-provided best-practice out-of-the-box RTE models. Value -> The new $MDL* predefined RTE models save significant time in setting parameter values for the different product and LPAR RTE configurations.
Quickly deploy SMP/E maintenance cross-LPAR RTEs via one job. Value -> The new PARMGEN "LOADALL" cross-RTE command provides the flexibility to deploy maintenance quicker across all your LPAR RTEs, or if you prefer, selectively deploy to a subset of your monitored environments, via a new composite KCIJ@LOD job.
Quickly convert your existing ICAT RTEs to PARMGEN mode and upgrade the products faster, with streamlined PARMGEN deployment jobs.
The new PARMGEN support also provides:
simple, tailored labels to make it easier to see which of the few 12 task-oriented, function-centric composite jobs are required for submission to complete the RTE set-up.
a set of handy and concise, tailored post configuration README files that are catered to your product configuration that makes it very easy to complete the post-configuration steps of setting up your monitors.
Quickly deploy z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS) and Agent connectivity changes to the product started tasks more dynamically at runtime. Value -> PARMGEN supports user symbols and provides the flexibility to set-up your LPAR RTEs with symbolic values (system variables or your own user symbols!). To make this process even easier, PARMGEN provides new predefined $MDLVARS profile that can be used to merge best-practice user symbols into your existing LPAR RTE profiles. This saves significant rollout time, so you do not have to specify the symbols manually, and, if system environmental values change (scheduled or unscheduled LPAR maintenance, for example) at your site, you can quickly change the user symbol resolution values that your z/OS TEMS and Agent monitoring solutions can effectively start running with less deployment time.
These are just highlights of the new PARMGEN enhancements. The most significant enhancement in this release is the streamlining of the configuration process with the introduction of Quick configuration mode. Quick configuration mode eliminates a number of individual steps from the configuration. Setting up a new RTE, cloning an existing RTE, or converting an ICAT RTE to PARMGEN can now be done by submitting a single job. IBM-provided model RTE profiles make it possible to set up a variety of types of RTEs with minimal configuration. In addition, you can merge a set of best practice variables into your RTE profile, so you do not have to provide them manually.
PARMGEN configuration tool supports the z/OS TEMS, the Enhanced 3270 User Interface (Tivoli OMEGAMON), and the TMS:Engine-based z/OS Agents in our IBM OMEGAMON Performance Management Suite for z/OS and IBM Service Management Suite for z/OS solutions.
