OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS V5.3.0 has delivered fix pack 2 together with PTFs UA79466, UA80018 and UA80759. Together the PTFs implement a whole host of customer requirements.
These continue our commitment to deliver upon Customer Requests For Enhancements which began with Fix pack 1
Service Level Analysis
The most significant change is to the Service Level Analysis component of OMEGAMON CICS.
This new display now contains the highest values for response time and CPU time detected for a transaction with each summary. These values are highlighted where displayed. This is because if you click on these values you will be taken to the task detail in transaction history, if it is active and the file or dataspace has not wrapped.
Also provided is the storage occupancy. This is a calculated figure from the user DSA and EDSA occupancy reported for each transaction. By combining the values from all transactions and dividing by the time span we are able to determine the impact of an application on the CICS DSA storage. The numbers displayed represents the average amount of storage used by the application over the period. This is vital to know if you are considering the combining of regions or moving one workload from one environment to another.
Lastly, in addition to including new delay reasons to the summary, we now display those regions as both a percentage of the total as well as the average value to the microsecond resolution.
Enhanced 3270 UI actions
It is now possible to use OMEGAMON KILL on a task from the Enhanced 3270 UI. This feature has always been available in the classic but until now it was not possible from the Enhanced 3270 UI. The same KILL and Force KILL options are now available if other mechanisms are unable to kill a task.
For ICEs and AIDs new options have been added to allow the KILL of all for a transaction or terminal.
For several Action commands you will see values pre-filled with the current values.
Here we can see the existing values for the DSLIMIT, the EDSALIMIT and the current MAXTASKS. Also displayed is the region size both above and below the line. This will give you an idea of the available size before changing the DSA limits.
The resource limiting feature of OMEGAMON CICS is only able to take actions on tasks as they make an EXEC CICS request. For this reason it has not been possible to abend or warn a task that is not making EXEC CICS requests. With this update it is now possible to be alerted that this is happening if Resource limiting is configured to send messages to the system log. Resource limiting will now check for tasks exceeding their thresholds for CPU or elapsed time even if they are not making any requests. While it is still not possible to abend these tasks automatically from OMEGAMON, it is possible to create automation on the new KCP8906I message produced when a task has exceeded its threshold but cannot be abended.

CICS transactions that use IMS will now show a breakdown of the requests for not just the PSB but also requests which are attributable to a specific database with IMS will be collected against that Database and not the PSB.
