It’s such an exciting time right now for IBM Z with the announcement of the z14, the next generation of IBM Mainframe designed for trusted digital experiences. This new game-changing system provides a variety of new functions improving the way we manage data, workload, and transactions.
Nearly 80% of the world’s data and transactions reside on or pass through the mainframe, IBM z14 delivers extensive use of encryption to protect client and corporate data from internal and external threats. For example, IT organizations can simplify compliance certifications by encrypting all data for IMS and DB2 with no application changes and no impacts to SLAs.
Let’s spell that out: 100% Encryption, 0 Application Changes, 0 Impact to SLA’s. Can any other platform in the world that can make that claim?
What’s exciting to me is when we bring together that combination of encryption and trust built into the core of the hardware, with the ability to be open and connected. Now that might sound contradictory, but with IBM Z you really can get the best of both worlds!
We all know that IBM Z is unparalleled when it comes to security, but it is far from an isolated box in the data center. When it comes to operating IBM Z as a core part of your hybrid cloud infrastructure, you need a true application centric end-to-end view - from mobile, to middleware, to mainframe - so that you can understand the root cause of an issue faster than ever. And you now have even more choices in terms of tools to help manage this environment.
Earlier this year we announced a Partnership and Beta for integration of mainframe transactional data with AppDynamics which delivers an end-to-end application view spanning mobile, middleware and mainframe. Now clients can not only use IBM’s leading OMEGAMON monitors for analyzing their mainframe operations, but they can also feed that data into a greater choice of APM technologies to consume data using the tools that they want. There will be more to come on this partnership later this year, so watch this space!
The Open and Connected story is also true when it comes to your Z log data. With IBM Common Data Provider for Z (CDPz), you can collect Z IT operations data from a variety of data sources and feed it to multiple internal end users and/or other analytics platforms like Splunk and Elastic Search. Again, this helps enable a solution for the hybrid cloud environment where analytics need to span the entire enterprise. In fact, we like this technology so much, we built it into the heart of our own analytics solution - IBM Operations Analytics for z/OS – which can help you diagnose potential issues and proactively find anomalies in your operations logs!
Of course, these are just a couple of highlights. When we look broadly at our portfolio of management tools, you can expect to see many enhancements - whether that is through OMEGAMON for JVM helping monitor the right Java metrics for your Z workload, System Automation technology guaranteeing high availability of your software stack on z14, or our latest monitoring agents that understand the latest z14 hardware.
We’re really excited to hear your story about how you’re going to achieve Operational Excellence through the combination of the IBM z14 and the IBM Z IT Service Management software portfolio, so do get in touch if you’d like to discuss any of these topics further.
