New DB2 instrumentation
DB2 APAR PI30375 (DB2 10) and PI35817, PI35818, PI35819, PI35820, PI35821 (DB2 11) introduced the DB2 IFI instrumentation extensions via IFCID 3/148 (dsect Q8AC thread level) and IFCID 2 (dsect Q8ST system level statistics). As already mentioned, IDT support is introduced in IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator V4 PTF5 or later. Without accelerator server support, no statement-level monitoring metric will be reported; the DB2 instrumentation will report only zero values for the respective counters and the OMEGAMON DB2 reports will not show any values or only “N/A” entries.
The following instrumentation extensions are made to dsect Q8ST in DB2 macro DSNDQ8ST:
The following instrumentation extensions are made to dsect Q8AC in DB2 macro DSNDQ8AC:
While there seems to be some overlap in terms of counter semantics, it is important to understand that the Q8AC extensions are at the transactional or thread level and more detailed (they also include row counts), while the Q8ST enhancements track the global system-wide stat
Support for the In Database Transformation feature in OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert
The following components of OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert support the Accelerator-only tables in the accelerator and DB2 z/OS:
1. Batch RECTRACE and Performance Database (PDB) support
Figure 1 shows the RECTRACE extensions for IFCID 2 (Statistics) and Figure 2 shows the extensions for IFCID 3 (Accounting)
Figure 2: RECTRACE support for IFCID 3 IDT extensions:
For PDB support the existing STATISTICS and ACCOUNTING tables have been extended to consider the new instrumentation, which affects PDB tables DB2PMSACCT_ACCEL, DB2PMFACCT_ACCEL, and DB2PM_STAT_ACCEL . The library rHilev.TKO2SAMP will ship the respective ALTER TABLE statements as usual.
The REPORT and TRACE processing for ACCOUNTING and STATISTICS has been extended to include the IDT counters. Figure 3 and 4 show examples of ACCOUNTIG and STATISTICS REPORT. Refer to the Report Reference manual for more details.
Figure 4: IDT extensions in ACCOUNTING REPORT layout:
Performance Expert Client has been extended to show the IDT-related counters in the following views: The “Statistics Details - Accelerators - DB2 Subsystem Perspective” view (Figure 5) and the “Thread Details – Accelerator“ (Figure 6).

This blog introduced our DB2 support for the Accelerator function “In Database Transformation” using Accelerator-only tables. We showed how OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert components can help DBAs and SYSPROGs evaluate accelerator operations when it comes to monitoring Accelerator-only tables.
