Hello, This is John Arnesen with NetView and System Automation level 2 support. A change was made in NetyView V5R4 that causes CLOSE IMMED to be converted to CLOSE STOP if NetView wasn't already terminating. This is documented under the IMMED option in the help for the CLOSE command. This design change was made to prevent severe actions from taking place when they aren't required. This change is also part of NetView V6R1. If CLOSE IMMED is issued again or after a CLOSE STOP or any other case where NetView was already terminating, it is... [More]

Hello, This is John Arnesen with NetView and System Automation for z/OS level 2 support. I recently worked on a PIPE pmr, and learned a little about using PIPE DEBUG to see what is happening while a PIPE runs. I am still figuring this out, but it is a good place to start when your pipe is running as expected. Good luck!! John The first thing is how to set DEBUG on in a PIPE. You will need to specify a PIPE name and a DEBUG x parm. The DEBUG options are DEBUG 1 and DEBUG 2. Coding DEBUG 1 produces debug output for... [More]
Message Revision Table (MRT) and Command Revision Table (CRT) are now available in IBM Automation Control for z/OS 1.1. Why monitor CSA and ECSA? Its simple, when common storage (CSA, ECSA, SQA, and ESQA) is exhausted, a system outage will occur. When ESQA is exhausted, further requests for ESQA are allocated from ECSA. When ECSA is exhausted, further requests are allocated from the much smaller CSA storage. The main reasons why common storage shortages occur: Not enough common storage is allocated Activity on the system exceeds previous levels, resulting in additional common storage being allocated An address space allocates more and more common...
