Hello, again, For those of you in the US, I hope you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. If you're anywhere in the southern half of the US, you know it's HOT -- mid-to-upper 90's (mid-upper 30's C) and more. Try to stay out of the heat. NetView for z/OS V6.1 has been available for a few days now, so I'm sure you've all placed your orders. Today I want to say a little more about another nice feature that's new in this release -- on-demand tracing. As I'm sure you know, NetView allows you to monitor your TCP connections. And as I've previously... [More]
Here is an issue I ran into today. Lets look at the pdf file attached:
Process Gone WIld PDF
On Page 2 - I saw two alerts this AM - One for a possible CPU Looping address space on LPAR SYS and a second one for a USS Process using a large amount of CPU time. Lets look at these issues on LPAR SYS.
On Page 3 - We go to OMEGAMON XE for zOS and look at LPAR SYS and ask which Address Space maybe Looping? It is CTG90GP. Now I can cancel this right here but I... [More]
After June 9th, you will see a warning message about an expired certificate. You can accept the certificate as "Always" to eliminate the warning message or you can resolve this issue by applying maintenance which will include new Java certificates. Depending on what products you have installed, you will need to apply maintenance for the following ITM and OMEGAMON products to get the updated certificates:
ITM V6.2.3 Fixpack 3 or higher (should be done first)
OMEGAMON XE for CICS V5.1.0, V4.2.0

Hi All , just a quick overview of what IBM is offering for Workload Automation. IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Leverage an enterprise-level workload automation backbone to drive heterogeneous workloads Time-consuming workload management tasks represent a significant hassle for today’s IT administrators. The complexity of performing the relevant tasks in a rapidly changing environment makes it difficult for IT organizations to act with flexibility. Because manual administration can be slow, it can frustrate efforts to maximize the... [More]
NetView for z/OS REXX samples are available for integrating NetView with the zAware Server. These samples help identify when system anomalies are found by zAware and allow further automation and problem diagnosis using NetView functions. Further information about this integration, the samples for downloading and information about zAware itself can be found by clicking here for the NetView for z/OS Wiki Integration Scenarios page.
Hello, This is John Arnesen with System Automation level 2 support. Apar OA39553/UA66231 for NetView v6r1 and OA38891/UA65375 for NetView v5r4 are available and marked HIPER. If you have System Automation or GDPS running on one of these NetView platforms, you will want to apply these apars. The apars fix a problem where a HANG can occur anytime a PIPE CORRWAIT is issued. We have seen NetView take a ABEND0C8 in DSIMQMAN as one symptom for this problem. Please note there are 43 modules in this apar, so there are potential issues with the HANG... [More]
Recently there was a change to the Utilized Storage Size data attribute and how it's calculated and displayed in OMEGAMON XE on z/OS, v5.1.0. In the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, the Coupling Facility Structures Data for Sysplex workspace, presents information for each coupling facility structure throughout the sysplex. The OMEGAMON enhanced 3270 user interface provides the Statistics for CF Cache Structure (KM5CFSO4) panel. Both displays use the CF Structures attribute group, which monitors the request activity from a z/OS image to a coupling... [More]
Tivoli Omegamon XE on z/VM and Linux has just released IF4. The highlight of this IF is a new Central Processing Complex (CPC) Workspace. From this workspace you can see, at a glance, the overall CPU usage of all the processors in your complex. The usage is broken down by processor type (IFL, CP, ZiiP, ZaaP, etc). This will allow you to easily see if you have excess capacity in your CPC, or if you are maximizing all of your processor resources. IF4 can be downloaded from Fix Central, with the corresponding Performance Toolkit piece available... [More]

Using traditional monitoring and automation... [More]
Just a reminder that OMEGAMON XE for zOS (4.2.0 and 5.1.0) will use RMF to collect metrics like Coupling Facility, XCF and Locking. This is a way to lower the OMEGAMON collection cpu used for customers already collecting this information with RMF. We plan to continue to use RMF more over time for OMEGAMON collection.
