System Automation for z/OS has just released APAR OA45008 for releases V3.5 and V3.4 and hence delivered RFE 31913. This APAR introduces export and import capabilities for your LPARS AND SYSTEMS policy which is part of a processor entry in the System Automation for z/OS policy database. With this support, customers can now completely define new processors, the LPARs and the systems that run on these LPARs using a text file instead of using the Customization Dialog panels. Customers can also extract all this data into a text... [More]

Over the last few weeks I've had the pleasure of talking to many clients at IBM events, User Groups and 1-1 meetings about a range of topics affecting System z and the one that has provoked some of the most interesting debate has been the impact of Mobile. Nobody would dispute the fact that the increased use of mobile technology is having an impact on the Systems of Record that are critical to so many enterprises, but after talking to numerous clients over the last few weeks the question has come up over and over again: "Is this new... zAware is a helpful tool from IBM's System Technology Group which can let you know when applications in your z/OS environment are doing unusual things. It monitors your system log for messages that are, for you, statistically unusual. zAware's browser session can show you when unusual message traffic is brewing by presenting what it calls it's "anomaly score". For you to know about it, though, you have to either logon to zAware's browser interface and keep your eyes peeled or better yet let OMEGAMON... [More]
IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS version 3.4 or higher provides Relational Data Services (RDS) that allows you to create, modify and query relational tables similar to SQL. Enhancements are now available for RDS that help you to share name-value pairs conveniently and efficiently between NetView tasks, TSO sessions and TSO batch jobs.
The new RDS function GETVAR and PUTVAR reads and writes a single name-value-pair or a list of multiple name-value-pairs in an atomic manner, which means it updates existing name-value-pairs or... [More]
The ITM service console is a utility to query and modify configuration information for an active Tivoli Monitoring process. You can use it to enable tracing for a TEMS, read logs, or query your configuration. Historically, the ITM service console was only accessible from a web browser, but now with the V730 release of the Enhanced 3270 User Interface you never have to leave the Enhanced 3270UI to access this important diagnostic tool.
How to get to it:
There are new options off the " All... [More]
Automation is used to handle activities that do not require expert judgment or analysis – DUHH !!! So where and how do we automate on z/OS ?
