When you’re investigating a problem with a CICS region or with a WebSphere MQ queue manager, you’ll find the source of the problem faster with the embedded data support in OMEGAMON XE on z/OS version 5.3. View address space and CICS region data together, then take action to immediately resolve the issue or navigate to additional workspaces to determine the source of the problem. Similarly, view WebSphere MQ queue manager and address space or coupling facility data to easily identify the source of a problem and take action to... [More]

One way or another we've all heard the quote “Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.” This is as true in managing problems in z/OS LPARs as anywhere else. History can teach us about recurring problem and about lingering problems. In this discussion we will show how the new OMEGAMON XE on z/OS version 5.3.0 Enhance 3270 User Interface can help system managers identify DASD device contention, how long it has been happening and who is involved.
Imagine for now that there is a z/OS... [More]

If you’re like many mainframe IT professionals, you’ve heard about this phenomenon sweeping the industry called “Cloud." And, perhaps you thought,“Hey, we’ve always had cloud on the mainframe. We've been doing this for the last 20 years with virtualized operating systems!" Yet, when you take a closer look, the distributed platform has built on the mainframe model with three concepts that add extreme value: 1) self-service provisioning, 2) elastic scaling, and 3) a new lifecycle element called DevOps that enables time-to-value of... When you are deploying a few dozen RTEs with the many products in the IBM Service Management Suite for z/OS, you always want the jobs to run as fast as possible.
And the recently released PARMGEN PTF (UA76016) has helped this by significantly decreasing batch run times.
In my testing with 15 products I've been seeing a consistent 30% reduction on a z196.
Moral of this story is you should always apply the latest PARMGEN maintenance before you deploy.
This affects any address spaces that execute PGM=KLV, namely:
z/OS ITM TEMS, z/OS OMEGAMON TEMAs, and z/OS OMEGAMON CUAs
Previously a TIME RESET command would need to be issued to each address space after the z/OS system local clock was changed.
With APAR OA46343, the code will check every quarter of an hour for a change of more than two minutes, forward or backward, in the z/OS system local clock; if a change is detected, the ITM Engine clock is resynchronised with the z/OS system local... [More]
As product manager for IBM® Tivoli® OMEGAMON® XE for DB2® Performance Expert on z/OS®, I’m often asked by customers and the field alike how does IBM’s “Expert” offering differ from the “Monitor” offering? Certainly there’s a concise list of features that differentiate Performance Expert from Performance Monitor, but there’s more to it than that.
IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS can be described as a single tool that allows you to... [More]
