I received a customer question about Log File Agent configuration files. They use the agent with a single instance. They store and service the format (.fmt) and configuration (.conf) file using a central HTTP server. Distributions are done via normal central configuration updates. But the Log File Agent does not automatically pick up the configuration change and additional asynchronous, manual management is necessary for the Log File Agent to recognize the change.
Tivoli Log File Agent 6.2.3 Fix Pack 1, available December 2011, has the ability to automatically pick up configuration changes without having to restart the agent. If either the format (.fmt) or configuration (.conf) file is updated, the agent notices their time stamp change within 60 seconds. The agent reinitializes its configuration dynamically without requiring a restart..
During reinitialization monitoring is interrupted momentarily and when the monitoring resumes, the agent continues monitoring the logs from the position before the restart. Information in the Log File RegEx Statistics, Log File Status and Log File Events attribute groups are reset.
To find out more information about Log File Agent consult the IBM Tivoli Log File Agent User's Guide for Version 6.2.3 Fix Pack 1. For a complete description of the reconfiguration support and what is new in LFA 6.2.3 Fix Pack 1 see the Overview section.
