Excellent session on distant learning that included such educational institutions as MIT and Harvard. Henry Leitner, CTO of Harvard, talked about the many ways that Harvard has embraced online learning, or e-learning. Buy in from the professors was key to make it successful, and they started by offering their e-learning as a part of the their continuing education services. Today, many degree-oriented courses are available online at Harvard. Plus, they've even experimented with e-learning podcasts. Wow!
So all this got me thinking... Harvard understands the need to provide educational opportunities in a non-traditional format. That's exactly what we at developerWorks are trying to do with skill building. Last year, we started offering Knowledge Paths to increase our readers' knowledge on various technical topics. To date, we've got Knowledge Paths that cover a number of topics, including cloud and Linux.
But we've just started. We plan to have many more. Take some time to see what we've built with our Knowledge Paths. You'll find you'll learn more about technologies... and build your skills.
