Hello again from Orlando and Innovate 2013 where events have opened today (Sunday) with the Open Lifecycle Summit and the Welcome Reception.
Open Lifecycle Summit
The Open Lifecycle Summit at Innovate looked from a development perspective at the open source and standards that will will drive interoperability across tools and organizations. Industry experts led a series of lightning talks and a panel discussion focused on the latest news in the open technologies space, including a look at how open source and standards are being used to achieve business success. The summit was opened by Rational General Manager Kristof Kloeckner! and hosted by Angel Diaz, VP, Software Standards, IBM Cloud Labs & HiPODS and Kevin Stoodley, IBM Fellow & Rational CTO. Topics covered included Agile, Cloud, DevOps, Mobile and Systems Engineering and featured speakers and panelists including:
We heard about the need for a new approach to lifecycle integration, how OSLC is moving forward to standardization through OASIS, and how open standards are driving agile development, mobile, cloud and a systems approach to product development. Sky Matthews highlighted the key role that OSLC is playing in bridging integration gaps between engineering disciplines and gave the Mentor Graphics integration of their electrical systems design capabilities with IBM’s systems and software engineering solutions as a prime example. During the panel discussion, in answer to a question posed by Dave West about why IBM is committing to open standards for lifecycle integration, his boss Mik Kersten praised IBM for their efforts stating “I've been to all the major ALM vendor conferences and this is the only one that's had an integration track".
Innovate 2013 formally opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony and the Welcome Reception in the Expo hall. Clients, IBMers and IBM Business Partners enjoyed drinks and snacks while viewing, demonstrating or discussing the latest products and services. In the Product & Systems Development Zone we’re featuring integrated solutions for product & portfolio management, requirements management, design, quality management and testing, planning & change management, and configuration management, and our industry specific capabilities for automotive, aerospace & defense, electronic design, and medical devices.
