In WCM, only live contents which are in state Published can be seen in a website. However, there are several times a customer may want to see how the content appears inside a Portal context and only if he is satisfied with the changes, he will change the state to Published.
There are 3 different ways to preview draft content in a website :
1. Using Projects : You can preview how a draft content will look by using Projects.
This link explains how to preview draft content inside a Project. See the section : Previewing the project:
2. Using a three stage workflow : In this environment, there is an Authoring server and a Review Server. By using a three stage workflow, review a draft item from Authoring server and once you are satisfied with the changes, move the item to 'Published' state.
This link explains this. See the section : Previewing draft Web Content Management content in a portal
3. Preview Topology : In this environment, there are 3 servers - Authoring server, Preview server and Rendering server. Authoring server is the syndicating source and the Preview server and Rendering servers are subscribers. When a draft content is syndicated to Preview Server, it automatically changes its state from Draft to Published. In the Rendering server, customer can view the changes. Once he is satisfied, he can move the content to Published in Authoring server and the changes are again syndicated to Preview Server and Rendering Server. Please refer the below link. Under section: Preview Topology
Customer can choose any one of the approaches that best suites them.
