IBM Web Content Manager version 8.5 got released last year in May. After the release, there are several enhancements that are added in the product. In this article, we will see some of the features like Project enhancements, Display of Item UUID in Authoring portlet, Resource element enhancements and Rest API enhancements.
In CF05, Project validation is introduced. A Project Validation has the ability to validate all the items in a project prior to publishing it. Previous to CF05, it is not possible for a user to find any publish errors in a Project, unless you publish it. A project that failing to publish has some issues. It may result in a time consuming and partially published website. To solve these issues, a Validate button on the WCM Project read form has been introduced. During project validation, the items that are failing to validate are added to a new table. A user can refer the table that contains the list of failed items. When a project completes validation, the time taken for validation and the number of failures are displayed.
Also, a new WCM API method markItemForDeletion() has been added in API WcmProjectService. This api method returns a LocalizedMessageContainer which enables a user to check for warnings and errors, when items are being marked for deletion in a project.
In CF05, the Authoring Portlet will now display the UUID of WCM Artifacts like Content, Site Area, Authoring template, Presentation Template and others. The UUID of an item is an unique identifier for that item. By default, the UUID field is not visible. A user needs to click on the “Show Hidden Fields” button to make it visible. This field can be found under the “properties” tab.
Why to show the UUID of an item in the item form ? There are 2 reasons :
a. For troubleshooting purpose: When a customer approaches the WCM Support for some issue, the support team may ask him to get the UUID of the item, then the Customer can now easily find the UUID from the Authoring portlet. Otherwise, the UUID can only be found from trace logs.
b. Remote actions/ REST & API calls require the UUID of the item to invoke an action.
In CF06, a new function has been added to file and image resource elements. In previous releases, a user can only upload a file in the resource elements. The new function allows a user to select existing file or image resource components to store in the file or image element. It provides support for remove and restore functionality in these resource elements. A user can now configure how the resource elements should appear differently for systems like Desktop, Tablet and Smart Phone using the renditions feature.
In CF03 and CF06, several additions were made to the ReST service / Remote actions API. These include:
Add full CRUD that is Create, Read, Update, Delete support for Workflow items and for remaining elements like Option selection, JSP, User selection.
Add CRUD support for Content and Site Area template's default content and properties.
Add limited CRUD support for all remaining item types.
Add support for base64 encoded binaries for File and Image resource components and elements
Add support for setting categories and keywords on items.
