Notifications add life to the passes installed on devices. Devices interact with your customers with notification messages that are relevant to time, location, and changes in the mobile backend. Pass Builder service hides all complexities in developing passes with notification support.
Location and Time based Notifications
Develop smart passes using Pass Builder service with location and time based information embedded in passes. These passes may automatically appear on your customer’s device at the appropriate time and place. For example, when your customer arrives at one of your store locations, a message will be displayed on the device to use a coupon installed on the device or remind them to use the gift card.
You may also issue a boarding pass to your customers, who will get time based and location based notifications.
Boarding passes with notification information may be easily added to your customer device:
Push Notifications and Change Messages
The Pass Builder service use Push Notification service which hides all the complexities involved in sending Push Notifications to the devices. This service handles the register/un-register device requests, and interacts with APNS (Apple Push Notification Service) servers to send Push Notifications to a registered device. Devices may interact with the Pass Builder service to get the latest version of a pass. You may configure change messages to be displayed for the user when something important changes. For example, when your gift card balances are updated, or when time/gate information for your flight changes.
You may edit the pass issued to your customer using RESTful interfaces or by using SDK (Software Development Kit) provided. When the pass is updated on backend, a notification message about the change will appear on device:
When the user swipes the notification message, the pass will open with the highlighted change:
If you have developed the pass with a relevant date and time, a notification message will appear at appropriate time.
For instance, a notification message will be displayed when your customer arrives at the airport. The user can then conveniently open the pass by swiping on the message lock screen.
Pass Builder service gives you access to a web based authoring tools to develop pass templates. You also have access to REST APIs and SDK for easy interaction to this service from your application. Pass Builder service depends on Push Notification service to send Push Notifications to devices.
