In InfoSphere MDM Version 22.214.171.124, the product installation has been enhanced to support Apache Kafka feature deployment.
The InfoSphere MDM deployment and runtime have now fully removed the need for DataDirect JDBC Driver. As a result of this change, the InfoSphere MDM Web Reports user interface now uses the native JDBC Driver
Apache Kafka enablement
To set the stage for better integration with other products and solutions, the Version 126.96.36.199 release enables InfoSphere MDM to use Apache Kafka for notifications. InfoSphere MDM now includes a Kafka enabled notification channel in parallel to the existing JMSChannel. You can
leverage the Kafka channel for System Activity Monitoring (SAM).
In addition, InfoSphere MDM now includes
Kafka based stream flows that can publish data in and out of InfoSphere MDM, leveraging the existing Adaptive Services Interface (ASI) for transformation of data. These stream flows are assembled using Kafka Database Connector, Kafka Entity Change listener, and a set of Kafka stream processors.
IBM Stewardship Center: Stewardship Physical MDM dashboard improvements
With this release, the IBM Stewardship Center provides significant improvements to the way you view Person and Organization records. The comprehensive new Overview screens enable operational MDM data stewards to more quickly understand the most relevant aspects of a party record in a visually appealing summary. From the Overview screens, you can easily navigate to the detailed entity information that you need the most. The summary view contains:
Key demographic information, with direct links to edit screens
Alerts associated with the party record
An enhanced relationship exploration map to enable seamless understanding of the party's importance and relationships across multiple domains
An interaction history tracker to provide insight into a party's customer status and sentiment
Social media integration with Twitter to deliver an immediate understanding of the party's current interests
Party contact preferences
A list of pending stewardship tasks related to the record
An interactive map showing the party's primary address location
In addition to the new Overview screens, this release also includes performance improvements when navigating between search and edit pages within the Stewardship Physical MDM dashboard.
Update to System Requirements
The Version 188.8.131.52 release of InfoSphere MDM includes a number of changes to the system requirements:
Microsoft Windows 7 is now supported for use as a development environment. This includes support for running both the MDM Workbench and the InfoSphere MDM operational server in Windows 7 (for development purposes only).
Microsoft Windows Server 2016 is now supported for InfoSphere MDM Standard Edition.
Google Chrome browser is now supported for use with the InfoSphere MDM user interfaces built on IBM Business Process Manager (BPM), such as IBM Stewardship Center. This support does not extend to any non-BPM based user interface.

As part of IBM InfoSphere MDM’s ongoing advancement, new and enhanced functionality is made available in this, the latest release. It is designated as v220.127.116.11 and covers the Standard Edition (SE), Advanced Edition (AE) and Reference Data Management (RDM) offerings.
For many customers that are currently on the offering’s version 11.5, or earlier versions of 11.6 releases, it will be possible to take advantage of the continuous delivery initiative which greatly simplifies the adoption of the new release by supporting in-place upgrading.
New features in this release:
Enhancements to IBM Stewardship Center
IBM Stewardship Center – Stewardship Virtual MDM (SE and AE)
The V18.104.22.168 release of the Virtual Stewardship Center gives data stewards more control over virtual MDM data. The new features allow data stewards to visualize and manipulate the relationships between entities as part of their work flow and provide the ability to directly control how member records are associated with them. These new capabilities will also make it possible for more users of the legacy virtual MDM stewardship offering, known as Inspector, to migrate to the IBM Stewardship Center and take advantage of this newer technology with its many benefits.
IBM Stewardship Center – Stewardship Physical MDM (AE)
The V22.214.171.124 release enhances several physical MDM data stewardship capabilities in IBM Stewardship Center. Key among these changes are a number of suspect processing task management enhancements. The new enhancements allow data stewards to better refine their searches for tasks, and also to create tasks based on the results of the new comprehensive suspect search functionality. These new capabilities allow data stewards to manage suspect resolution tasks more efficiently by providing the ability to directly control the specific tasks, along with the number of these tasks, that appear in their work queue. This alleviates the problems stemming from large numbers of tasks where the steward now will be able to just “pull” a select set of tasks to work on.
The search capabilities of the Stewardship Center have been further enhanced introducing searches by administration system key and the ability to search and view inactive person or organization records. This aligns better with the information the steward may have to locate a party.
To enhance the user experience, the Stewardship Center now includes a list of recently viewed screens to enable data stewards to quickly navigate to previously viewed records and to control which recently viewed items they want to retain in future sessions.
This release also includes new controls and enhancements to allow data stewards to manage households more efficiently and effectively. The new features give data stewards the ability to more seamlessly define the criteria used to form a household, add or remove members from a household and move members from one household to another.
This release also improves the serviceability and customizability of the physical MDM capabilities of IBM Stewardship Center. It is now easier to manage and maintain customizations while applying feature packs and upgrading to new versions of the IBM Stewardship Center.
Advanced Edition Functional Enhancements
Grouping and householding improvements (AE)
Building on the householding feature previously introduced in V11.6 enhancements have been introduced in version 126.96.36.199 to treat a household independently of the group it is assigned to. This capability improves the survivorship logic associated with households to be based on the current grouping name of the records in the grouping table.
Multi-algorithm matching (AE)
With this release, InfoSphere MDM also supports multi-algorithm support using the Probabilistic Matching Engine's deduplication and supplementary algorithms. For example, your organization may have party records belonging to different lines of business with different roles. You can now further classify these and apply different matching and searching algorithms on each subclass.
Reference Data Management
Functional and usability enhancements (RDM)
InfoSphere MDM Reference Data Management Hub Version 188.8.131.52 includes usability enhancements to make it easier for data stewards to work with reference data sets -- The Hierarchy editing screens have been enhanced to enable you to edit properties and translations for values while working with the hierarchies. This eliminates the need to switch back to the grid view to edit the properties. The navigation has been enhanced to allow you to switch between the Set Properties, Values, and Hierarchy views with a single click, instead of having to access a menu to switch views. This change makes these views easier to access so that you take advantage of their more advanced capabilities. You can now sort based on any column in a table, making it easier for you to find the data you need to work with and to bring feature parity to the sorting functions previously added to the Map screen. The grid view has also been enhanced to display more columns of data by default instead of requiring you to manually configure it.
Installation and upgrade enhancements
Continuous delivery model (SE, AE and RDM)
In the v184.108.40.206 release, the installation and upgrade processes have been enhanced to support the continuous delivery model. This enables many customers to seamlessly do an in-place upgrade of their deployment from version 11.5 or from earlier v11.6 releases to the 220.127.116.11 version.
Pre-configuration validation check (SE, AE and RDM)
In InfoSphere MDM V18.104.22.168, the installation application has been enhanced to perform pre-configuration validation checks to ensure that all required components are in place for a smooth installation. These validation checks increase the probability of a successful installation, thereby reducing the time and effort required for analysis if certain conditions are not met.
Similarly, improvements have been made to the upgrade process for Reference Data Management by removing some manual steps to go from earlier version 11 releases to v22.214.171.124.

IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management 126.96.36.199 is now available. In this new release, the following new features have been added:
IBM Stewardship Center (ISC)
Advanced Householding for physical MDM -- Support for the Householding capabilities in ISC have been further enhanced following the Auto Householding creation introduced in v188.8.131.52. This includes entering and maintaining of a meaningful name, type and comments for the household. Now, for members of the household roles can be set, e.g. "head of household" in ISC. Better controls are provided when a party is already associated with another household; the ISC user can select the correct disposition. Note that the physical MDM householding features are built on the core grouping functionality and thus that other use scenarios, beyond householding, may be implemented with this.
Enhancements in ISC for virtual MDM -- Several enhancements have been made available to the virtual MDM functionality in ISC. These include selection of tasks to be submitted to the Bulk Match Process, column sort capabilities, some navigation improvements, viewing of applicable rules and drop-down menus on search screens. These enhancements help the user to work with ISC in a more intuitive way.
Enhanced upgrade options -- In the InfoSphere MDM Installer options are now available to upgrade Standard and Advanced Editions as well as Reference Data Management (RDM) using an in-place approach rather than the "fork lift upgrade" (net new environment) that was previously required. This makes for easier adoption of new capabilities and reduces the efforts associated with upgrades greatly.
MDM Messaging Adapter Enhancement -- Support has been added for the MQRFH Version 2 Header. This header carries JMS-specific data that is associated with the message content and is an extensible header. It can also carry additional information that is not directly associated with JMS.

This blog post will focus on how to enable The WebSphere Liberty Admin Center within an existing Information Server installation.
The Admin Center provides a way to edit the server.xml file as well as Explore the deployed applications and monitor metrics such as Heap usage.
First, it is a good idea to upgrade to the latest version of WebSphere Liberty in order to benefit from security fixes. In addition Liberty 220.127.116.11 (version packaged with Information Server) does not contain the ability to view/edit the server.xml file. Use this link to access the latest WebSphere Liberty Fix Pack. As noted here, WebSphere Liberty Fix Pack numbering changed. What this means is your install of Liberty will go from 18.104.22.168 to 22.214.171.124 or later!
If upgrading WebSphere to 126.96.36.199 or later you will have a fix for PI50993, an Apache HttpComponents vulnerability.
In this case, you need to install the relevant Apache Commons update for Information Server and obtain JR55455. Most customers should pursue installing 11.5 Fix Pack 1 + ISF RU4 + Data Integration RU1 + Governance RU6 along with the manual steps recorded in README.
WebSphere Liberty Fix Pack installations are very quick and easy and have simple rollback instructions.
- Obtain the Fix Pack from Fix Central
- Ensure the package is in Liberty Archive format, i.e. filename ends in .jar
- An example filename is: wlp-core-runtime-188.8.131.52.jar
- Stop Liberty
/opt/IBM/InformationServer/wlp/bin/server stop iis
- Backup Existing Liberty Install
mv wlp wlp.184.108.40.206.orig
- Install new Liberty Fix Pack

- Copy Information Server files into new installation

The prior version can be reverted if needed by moving the backup directory [wlp.22.214.171.124.orig] back to InformationServer/wlp and starting Liberty.
Now we can install/configure the Admin Center for Liberty.
First, install the additional feature:

In the server.xml file (/opt/IBM/InformationServer/wlp/usr/servers/iis/server.xml)
Enable the Admin Center by adding:

New enhancements for InfoSphere Information Server 11.5
Every eight to ten weeks, we’re releasing new improvements and features to make data quality and governance simpler. On June 30th, we released our third governance roll-up patch (RUP3) for InfoSphere Information Server, focused on providing more flexibility when working with your data. Here are just a few of the highlights.
InfoSphere Information Analyzer thin client
The thin client is a lightweight, browser-based companion to the Information Analyzer workbench that allows data analysts to view and edit analysis results for data sets.
With the first iteration of the thin client, we introduced a comprehensive data quality score that provides quick feedback on a variety of common data quality dimensions like missing values, duplicate values, or format violations. We identify many of these common quality dimensions for you out of the box.
With RUP3, we introduced the quality rule, which allows data quality teams to customize and identify new quality dimensions in data sets. Using pre-existing rule definitions, you can create quality rules and apply them across multiple columns at once. There is no need to name and define output for each individual rule you create, which makes analysis simpler and faster. The results of a quality rule execution are rolled into the quality score calculation and displayed with the data quality results in the thin client interface.
In RUP3, quality rule creation is restricted to single variable rule definitions. We’re aiming to expand to multi-variable rule definitions in the near future.
InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog
A key feature of the governance catalog is custom attributes. In RUP3, we introduced new type of custom attributes to allow customizing relationships. You can also use these new custom attributes to define relationships between assets. You can learn more about custom relationships in Information Governance Catalog here.
Query Development Glossary
Customers rely upon the query framework for advanced search capabilities. With Rollup 3, a customer can run queries against development glossary. This provides ability to query for terms that are in draft or pending approval state
InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager
With Governance Rollup 3, we are refreshing a number of bridges. All non-IBM import bridges are updated. We introduce two significant updates including support for importing metadata from QlickView and Powerplay transformer cubes based on csv files, Cognos Framework Model or reports using the Cognos content manager bridge.

We have integrated with Apache KAFKA ® to provide an open event management framework, opening up opportunities to integrate information server events into your workflows and portal integrations

New enhancements for InfoSphere Information Server 11.5
On May 3rd, we released our second data governance roll-up, containing enhancements and new functionality for areas of metadata, data quality, governance, and stewardship for Information Server 11.5.
We’re excited for you to start benefitting from all of the new features we introduced in roll-up 2 (RUP2). Here are a few of our favorite improvements.
InfoSphere Information Analyzer thin client
View, edit, and understand analysis results
A lightweight, browser-based companion to the Information Analyzer workbench, the thin client makes it easy for data analysts to view and edit analysis results for data sets. Use the new data quality score, only available in the thin client, to get quick feedback on a variety of common data quality dimensions, like missing values, duplicate values, or format violations.
Monitor data rules
Even with a robust data quality score, you’ll want to apply data rules to your data sets, so we also allow you to view data rule results at both a workspace and column level.
Onboard and analyze flat files
In addition to support for HDFS files, we’ve also included support for onboarding and analyzing delimited flat files from LUW systems. The thin client simplifies the handling of flat file delimiters and character encoding when onboarding flat files, which saves time and frustration.
InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog
Data lineage reports for compliance
Compliance reporting can be a huge time sink for even the most organized governance teams. In RUP2, we introduced incremental improvements to our new data lineage reports to ease some of that pain. You can design lineage reports templates to focus on the critical data attributes and facets that matter to your organization. You can also customize the information contained in your report for an external audience.
Export information asset values
To further simplify your governance work, we added the ability to modify information asset values with a simple export and import. Values associated with your Information Governance Catalog information assets include things like terms, steward assignments, and custom attributes. Export those values, make the necessary changes, and import the new values to update catalog.
InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager
We’ve introduced the ability to filter schemas using regular expressions during metadata import, so you can instruct the system to find only the selected schemas that you’re interested in seeing. For systems with a huge amount of schemas in a given database, this saves a lot of time and makes your imports efficient.

InfoSphere Quality Stage is a powerful tool to find duplicates in the data. But often the users lack the following information:
1. Steps involved to find the duplicates
2. How to fine tune the engine to get best match or in other words the best practices
3. Template that can be used as a starting point to find duplicates in the data.

DataStage has had NLS (National Language Support) for a very long time. In the IBM InfoSphere Information Server versions, it is referred to as Globalization Support in the installer, but it is still called NLS in the DataStage clients. For the purpose of this discussion, I will call it NLS since our legacy users know that term and configuration after install uses it. When you are planning an upgrade to a new version of the software, you need to decide what NLS support you had and what you need for the new system.
The first thing you have to know is that you cannot change the NLS configuration of your engine after installation without doing a reinstall. Consequently, it is critical that you know how your current DataStage software is configured and use that information in conjunction with your processing requirements to ensure you configure NLS correctly for your needs.
The second thing you should know is that exporting from a system with NLS "on" to a system with NLS "off" is not supported. The DSX or isx will contain information that a system without NLS will not know how to handle. It might work. It may even work most of the time. But it is not a tested path and we have not put in the code to be sure it does work. Exporting from NLS "off" to NLS "on" is supported.
In general, IBM recommends enabling NLS. It allows you to handle data from and to different character sets. You need NLS enablement to be able to correctly parse multibyte characters. In the current global economy, systems that only have to deal with single byte data are becoming rare.
If you are primarily using the parallel engine, there is no performance impact for NLS enablement. However, if you are primarily using server jobs, going from NLS off to NLS on will impact performance and will usually require job changes. More information about the trade offs are below.
Determining if NLS is enabled on your source system
There are a number of ways to determine your NLS configuration. The one that works for all versions is to check your <installpath>/Server/DSEngine/uvconfig file. If NLSMODE is set to 1, NLS is enabled. While you are in the file, also note what your NLSOSMAP setting is.
If NLSMODE is in the file and set to 0, it could indicate that someone “turned off” NLS. Turning off NLS by setting NLSMODE to 0 does not work correctly and if you never noticed data corruption, you were lucky. Whether you choose to turn NLS on or off on your target system, you are going down an untested path.
If NLSMODE is not defined in the file, NLS is not enabled.
NLS is not enabled on your source system
If NLS support is not installed on your source system, extra consideration is needed depending on the type and composition of the existing jobs, and the likelihood of needing NLS features now or in the future.
If your operating system language is not English, installation will automatically enable NLS. If your operating system language is English, you will see a globalization panel with a check box titled “Install globalization support”. The box is checked by default. If you do not want NLS support you must uncheck it.
For existing jobs, the primary effect of enabling NLS support is on server jobs, and on parallel jobs which use server shared containers or the Basic transformer. The main areas of behavior which change in DSEngine with NLS enabled are:
Server jobs run internally in UTF8 rather than in host characterset bytes; this can have a performance impact due to conversion (if used) and due to higher overheads for internal manipulation.
Jobs which process non-ASCII characters may not work the same way. This includes extended ASCII, non-character bytestreams and EBCDIC characters.
Specifically, string handling functions with NLS enabled will interpret data as UTF8 characters of length one to three bytes. Jobs which assumed byte-based offsets with NLS not enabled will not necessarily work the same way with once enabled, unless they are processing just strict (7-bit) ASCII data. This applies to all character based functions, including string indexing constructs of the form string[start,count]
Locale behavior changes from the DSEngine defaults to locale-specific functions. This includes date and time representations and conversions (eg Iconv and Oconv), alphabetic sort orders, numeric representation, currency, and character classifications, including case handling.
NLS is enabled on your source system
If NLS support is enabled on your source system, you should also enable it on your destination system.
If you had NLS enabled on your source system, you should check the default character set defined by NLSOSDEF. If you are migrating from 8.0.1 or earlier, or if you are changing platforms, your new system may have a new default character set. If the default character set changes, you may need to change the default character set in the Project or jobs if you do not want the jobs' behavior to change. In addition, since sorts can be done at the OS level, a character set change could result in small order changes. If you decide you want to use the same character set as the source system, you need to set it in your operating system prior to installing.
