At this writing is this community still young with only one reading group initiated. But to make it interesting enough to attract new members and members with different roles like developers, architects and possibly some project members, would it be useful if we could see more reading groups in future in parallel to the one we now will run as a start. With more than one reading group and so more than one book to select from will we have a better chance to attract more members.
Everyone, particularly you that not yet participate in our first reading group, are most welcome to initiate a new reading group at any time! And you will have a good home for it in this community which support it with a sub community, forums for discussions, the wiki for documentation and this blog for knowledge sharing. I and others in this community will also be available for you as a speaking partner and support you as much as possible to get it started.
As said on the page about this community does it not have any formal leaders. No community can survive if it is dependent on only one leader as there will be periods when we are overloaded with work or can't perform leadership of some other reason. Everyone is instead welcome to and most encouraged to take leadership to for example start a new reading group and the others of us should support such initiatives and leadership as much as we can to make it successful. There is no one you can ask for permission to take leadership, you will have to decide about when to do it yourself and this is a chance for anyone to practise leadership.
An another thing to consider is if we should create any sub group to our first reading group later if it should grow to large or if someone would like it to run another reading speed in a parallel group. It is better with a too large group than two too small groups of course so this is something we should consider carefully before we initiate it, but we could do if we could could have it in mind.
Anyone that would like to start a new reading group is also encouraged to read the document Knowledge Hydrant - A Pattern Language for Study Groups that is available in the files for this community. It is a document with a lot of inspiration and good advices for study groups like the reading groups in this community.
An another thing we should try to achieve is to reach many non IBMers also. Many of the members in this community now are IBMers but it is meant for anyone with an interest for learning and there is many outside of IBM that we also could learn from a lot. And they could learn from us. This community is meant to be a place for learning regardless of our employment is with IBM or any other company. So you that not are an IBMer should feel that you still are very welcome to this community! We want to collaborate with you to learn from you!
