How often do you check your twitter friends' updates? Your facebook wall? Your RSS feeds? I can almost anticipate the answer... quite frequently if you are anything like myself.
Well if you haven't already stumbled upon it... you have to check out My developerWorks updates. It offers you one place to follow all your favorite technical experts, trending topics and My dW updates. Honestly, I can't imagine what's better than that.
Let's get started...
Go to My home (I'd bookmark it if I were you), and let me walk you through all five tabs - then you can determine what view is your favorite.
Here's what you can expect...
Tab 1: Discover - Just in the mood to see everything as its happening in My developerWorks? You're at the right place. Discover (that's why we like this label) what you're missing, see what everyone else is doing. (Imagine, its your public timeline in Twitter, except it all your favorite technical topics)
Tab 2: My Updates - Only care about the updates to your activity within My developerWorks? Then select the My updates tab. Say for instance you posted a blog entry and want to see who commented.. or you joined a group and want to see who else has joined, then you probably want to check this - uh NOW!
Tab 3: My watchlist - Ok, here's my favorite... Its all about customizing the real-time updates down to what interests you. Follow people, tags and blogs (more on this coming in an upcoming post). We've even made it easy for you... just select from "suggested tags" - as these are the very topics you told us you were interested in from your profile (if you haven't added interests to your profile - you absolutely must! its the best way to connect with others who have similar interests - after all - this is all about social NETWORKING).
Tab 4: My notifications - This is pretty self-explanatory - but in case you've been looking everywhere for your message inbox - you've found it! You can see all the notifications you've sent and received from every app. I would say that's pretty important too - don't you think?
Tab 5: My saved items - Just to put the icing on the cake, you can also earmark content as you see it - since you can be sure, it will be gone before you know it, its real-time after all, Just select "More" from any update, then "Save this item" and come back anytime to "My saved items" to re-read it over and over again.
Want know more... we spent an awful long time writing our My dW help documentation (this link is all about My home) - you should check it out. Or if you'd rather - drop me a line (go to My profile, Add me as a colleague and then send me a message, write on my wall, etc., I'd love to hear from you).
