We're here to help you fill in the gaps. Of course, we know you already have plenty of skills in your software development toolkit, but no matter how impressive your arsenal you will eventually find yourself looking for new solutions. Which is why we keep coming up with helpful resources like the "5 things you didn't know about ..." Java technology series. Authors Ted Neward and Steve Haines guide you through some of the less commonly known aspects of Java programming -- everything from Apache Maven to Java performance monitoring to JDBC; this week, Steve continues the wildly popular series with a focus on enhancing Swing. And for what it's worth, the "you didn't know" part is just a figure of speech -- we realize that some of you may already be familiar with some of this material. (Thank you for your spirited e-mails.)
Speaking of Java programming, if you're looking to find out more about the IBM-Oracle agreement to cooperate on OpenJDK, we've got that gap covered, too. Hear IBM's own Rod Smith and Jason Gartner talk about the agreement in this new podcast. That ought to generate a few more e-mails.
Until next week,
John Swanson and the developerWorks editorial team
