Gone are the days when businesses banished IT folks to dark, remote garrets where they stared at code into the wee hours and had little contact with anyone else in the enterprise. These days, if a business wants to survive, it needs to constantly monitor and optimize all of its processes -- and IT plays an integral role in the pursuit of that agility. (Welcome to the team!)
Business process management (or BPM) is a management approach that aims to help you and your business optimize performance by continuously examining and improving business processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Naturally, IBM has tools and technologies dedicated to helping you take advantage of BPM, and developerWorks' Business Process Management Journal can help you understand how these solutions work, and use them to optimize your own processes. The current issue includes a wide range of articles (several on the new WebSphere Business Compass), as well as tips and perspectives on BPM that you won't find anywhere else.
So take a look -- you might get some good ideas for the next strategy meeting (where I hear there will be snacks).
Until next week,
