Every so often, it pays to step away from the code and the meetings and all the grown-up stuff, and ask "What do the kids think is cool?" And in the IT realm, nothing keeps youngsters captivated like video games. Many of us have fond memories of countless hours spent staring at kinetic forms on a colorful screen (perhaps as recently as this morning).
So it's no surprise that our HTML5 2D game development article series has been such a hit. Author David Geary guides you step-by-step through the process of implementing a platform side-scrolling game (a la Donkey Kong) from scratch, primarily with the HTML5 Canvas API. The first two parts introduced the game (Snail Bait) and showed you how to work with the graphics and animation. The latest installment delves into the game's infrastructure: how to encapsulate game code in an object, how to implement pause and unpause, and more. For many of you, this is the kind of thing that got you started in software development.
