This course aims to explain the fundamental ideas and address key issues on the developing field of Wireless Sensor Networks. In this course curriculum, both hardware and software architectures of sensor networks are treated from the point of view of the different constraints these systems possess in terms of communication, cost, energy consumption and area coverage. Furthermore, the course aims to present optimization techniques in the design of wireless sensor networks and in real-time event monitoring. The particularities of different dedicated operating systems and network simulators are also studied with the main goal of teaching students how to design and deploy large city-scale autonomous and efficient sensor network infrastructures.
