Troubleshooting IBM Tivoli Monitoring VMware VI agent
Here are a few basic steps to get the most out of the the VMware VI agent: 1) Install the latest vCenter from VMware. The best release is the latest release, vCenter 4.1, and it has shown superior performance over earlier releases. If you are still using vCenter v2.5, be sure to install the latest level, Update 6 (build 227637). The early update levels of vCenter v2.5 will not work with the agent, and VMware currently supports only Update 6. 2) Install the latest VMware VI agent. If you haven't already, install the new v6.2.3, available... [More]

ItmSysp: AIX and VIOS Premium agents might core on AIX 6.1 TL8 and VIOS 2.2.2
This is embarrassing! While we always encourage users to upgrade to the latest AIX TL and SP levels, AIX 6.1 TL 8 will cause the aixDataProvider-61 process to core on the AIX Premium and VIOS Premium agents. AIX 6.1 TL 8 is the underlying AIX for VIOS 2.2.2, so that is why the VIOS agent also has this problem. Earlier, the AIX Premium agent also had a core problem on AIX 7.1 TL1. The good news is that these problems are resolved in the following interim fixes: 6.2.2.2-TIV-ITM_AIX_PREM-IF0005 6.2.2.2-TIV-ITM_VIOS_PREM-IF0004 It is... [More]

ItmSysp: Fireplaces and other places to find logs
What can be better that a warm place on a cold day? I've lived in North Carolina in the United States my whole life, and except for the occasional ice storm, it never really gets very cold. However, I do enjoy a nice fire in the fireplace, if for nothing more that toasting marshmallows when the coals die down. And as more homes turn to gas logs, finding suppliers of wood logs is getting harder.
Fortunately for IBM Tivoli Monitoring System p agent users, finding where the logs are is pretty simple. All the logs will be in the... [More]

Sitworld: Put Your Situations on a Diet Using Indexed Attributes
During the course of a long sev1 at a large customer site a situation was identified that was delivering 1000+ rows of data every evaluation cycle. This was happening on a just a few Linux OS Agents and it was a contributor to the problems observed at the remote TEMS. The identification was from a TEMS Audit basic workload capture. 1000+ rows of data was a little unusual. That needed investigation and remediation. Read more here . New Year's Resolution - Stay within the ITM Situation limits and avoid performance hangovers.
On December 25, 2013 a sev1 PMR arrived for an unstable remote TEMS. The remote TEMS ran for three hours and then went crazy. Agents could not connect and the hub TEMS decided the remote TEMS was offline. That condition repeated after a remote TEMS recycle. Nineteen remote TEMS were working fine but two remote TEMS were behaving in this strange way. Read more...
