How to add new users on the APM Server
The APM GUI does not offer you an option to add additional or new users on the APM server. However, should you need to add new users, you can easily do this. Here are the easy and simple steps: Login to your APM server at the command-line as root. Make a backup of your /opt/ibm/wlp/usr/shared/config/basicRegistry.xml file. This is where the users are stored. Next open the file and add the new users by copying the "apmadmin" line and then changing it. For example, this is how I've added the users nalewis and garyk in the file. ... [More]

Is it possible to monitor the WAS Activation Specifications using the WAS YN agent?
Question Is it possible to monitor the WAS Activation Specifications using the WAS YN agent? Answer No, you cannot use the WAS YN agent or the MQ Monitoring agent to monitor the WAS Activation Specifications. The Activation specification is a configuration artifact, not a run time component. The resource adapter where this specification is defined takes care of connecting to the message destination, retrieving the messages and passing along to the message end point - most typically a message driven bean (MDB). At run time, the Activation... [More]

Symptom: In Cloud App Management, after you upgrade the WAS agent to version 7.3.0.14 ifix 06 in Windows and the Cloud App Management server to V 4.1, the WAS agent does not show data in Windows. In the Cloud App Management console, there are two instances of the Websphere Application Servers resource shown with the same name. One resource shows data and the other resource doesn't show any data. Solution: This is a known issue. You can ignore the resource that is not showing data.

Diagnosing high CPU usage issue for the MQ agent
It is difficult to determine the root cause when high CPU issue happens in a customer's environment. To narrow down the problematic area to thread level, this document will introduce some useful utilities and commands for various distributed platforms. 1 Windows Windbg and Process Explorer utilities are very good utilities to debug Windows programs. You can download them from the following links. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463009.aspx and install Debugging Tools for Windows 32-bit Version then download the... [More]

i5OS agent not connecting to RTEMS
All the i5OS monitor admins know very well the issue related to APAR IV76801. (see technote https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21966093 for detail) that caused lot of panic as all the i5OS monitoring agents suddenly stopped working. Now all i5OS environments are for sure running the patch or the agent version that include above fix. Anyway, every time we have to investigate a communication issue between agent and RTEMS, that is the first option that comes to our mind. There is instead another interesting scenario where you... SYNTHETIC PLAYBACK AGENT KEEPS CRASHING RANDOMLY
One of the Synthetic Agent (SN agent version 01.00.05.03) used to measure portal responsiveness started crashing quite often, at least once every 2 days. When this kind of problem occurs, usually it depends on one of the playback scripts. The agent was configured to run several scripts so it was not easy to understand which one was causing the problem. When the agent cores, it actually stops working despite the process seems to be still up and running. Every time we had to restart the agent to recover. Looking at the callstack, I noticed that...
