Welcome to the Application Performance Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from APM experts. This Blog provides insights into the Application Performance Management solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
I'm really looking forward to the InformationOnDemand (IOD) conference starting November 3rd. It will be very interesting to see how we apply analytics to solve Application Performance Management problems. We'll have a few demo PEDs in the Expo center and a few sessions that I highly recommend. If you are attending the IOD conference, stop by booth 708. I also highly recommend the following sessions. Oracle added same security updates in Java 1.7u45 that I mentioned in my previous blog into Oracle Java 1.6u65. As a result, Java webstart client will fail to start with Oracle Java 1.6u65. The only work around at this point is to use Oracle Java 1.6 u51 or less. The customer can also use the TEP browser client as an alternative. We opened an APAR IV51394 to resolve this issue but we don't have ETA yet. We'll update the progress when we have a solid plan.
As of Oracle Java 1.7.0u45 the TEP java webstart client failed to start. The following link talks about the new enforcement of Java runtime parameters in jnlp files. https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8023821?focusedCommentId=13377692&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3acomment-tabpanel#comment-13377692 The only work around at this point is to use Oracle Java 1.7.0u40 or less. The customer can also use the TEP browser client as an alternative. IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions ~ How to do stuff ~ By Kevin Baldwin - How to..... Add timers to Rational Functional Tester (RFT) scripts to calculate subtransaction response time measurements If you record a RFT script without adding timers, subtransactions are automatically generated when the playback is run on an ITCAMfT Robotic Response Time agent. You have no control over the subtransaction level or names of the subtransactions. It can be a bit messy. By adding Start and Stop timers during the script development... [More]
IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions ~ How to do stuff ~ By Kevin Baldwin - How to..... Correctly interpret playback status and availability information seen in Robotic Response Time workspaces The information in this blog answers the following questions: Why is Last Run Status showing Complete when the monitored web server isn't available? Why is the application showing 100% availability when the monitored web server isn't available? The quick answer to these questions is: Playback Status just reports the status of... [More]

Will Harthoorn Back in the last century one of the earliest third party integrations developed for Netcool OMNIbus was a gateway to the Remedy Action Request System (ARS). That gateway allowed an operator to create a trouble ticket from an OMNIbus event and thus initiated the now standard process from event management to incident management. This process is essentially one way the posting back of the trouble ticket number notwithstanding, and the event manager and service request server are treated as two entirely separate systems that...
