Our family adopted a greyhound some years ago and named her Aunt Bea, with a nod to the Andy Griffith Show. She was fresh off the track and her muscles were rock hard. But it didn't take long for her to settle into retirement and soften up a bit. Even so, she still maintained her sleek look and you could tell she was built for speed. Interesting facts about greyhounds: They either stand or lie down, and rarely sit (it is just too difficult for them). They can sleep 18 hours a day... ...but they can reach a max speed of... [More]

Consideration of business policies in any environment is necessary before you plan do an optimization. The business policies are dependent on specific environment attributes. IBM SmartCloud Monitoring Capacity Planner allows the Analysts to tag the Virtual Machines with custom user-defined attributes and create a rule which can be considered while doing an optimization. We are organizing a technical deep dive session on 23rd January where in we will show how to create a variety of rules using IBM SmartCloud Monitoring Capacity Planner. This... [More]
A gift from IBMer Aldo Duran, who wrote a really nice example project to act as an Event Integration Facility [EIF] receiver and do something interesting. For example you could send an email when a situation is started. Or check a database and figure out who is really interested at a certain time of day. more...
Right behind my house is an old railroad line that has been converted into a hiking and biking trail called the American Tobacco Trail , and about a mile down, a creek runs under the trail. Of course, several other smaller creeks and run-offs converge to form this creek, and years ago, the railroad owners built a couple of pipes to allow the creek to keep flowing under the railroad tracks. After a big rain, the creek swells up and the flow through the pipes increases, but I don't have a way to know which of those... [More]

On December 25, 2013 a sev1 PMR arrived for an unstable remote TEMS. The remote TEMS ran for three hours and then went crazy. Agents could not connect and the hub TEMS decided the remote TEMS was offline. That condition repeated after a remote TEMS recycle. Nineteen remote TEMS were working fine but two remote TEMS were behaving in this strange way. Read more...
During the course of a long sev1 at a large customer site a situation was identified that was delivering 1000+ rows of data every evaluation cycle. This was happening on a just a few Linux OS Agents and it was a contributor to the problems observed at the remote TEMS. The identification was from a TEMS Audit basic workload capture. 1000+ rows of data was a little unusual. That needed investigation and remediation. Read more here .
