Welcome to the Application Performance Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from APM experts. This Blog provides insights into the Application Performance Management solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
1) WRT does not report any data in TEP under Web Response Time workspace views, like under "Application current status" ==> - Check if you are getting a kfcmserver log file (Windows) or kfcm120 log file (Unix) created. - If kfcmserver (Windows) or kfcm120 (Unix) process is running, but no log is produced, it's generally a sign that the kfcmenv file was edited and some incorrect was written in it. Example : on a Unix WRT agent, kfcmenv file was containing, wrong ly:... [More]
It is sometimes not so straightforward to understand the APM maintenance level corresponding to a WAS Agent and Data Collector version. Here is a list of the WAS agent versions bundled in the most recent APM agents 8.1.x installation images and patches: APM 8.1.2 contains the WAS agent version 07.30.10.0 (DC 18.104.22.168.0) APM 8.1.3 contains the WAS agent version 07.30.11.0 (DC 22.214.171.124.0) APM 8.1.3 IFix06 contains the WAS agent version 07.30.11.6 (DC 126.96.36.199.06) APM 188.8.131.52 contains the WAS agent version 07.30.12.0 (DC... Recently I've been ask to provide a suggestion about how to show a pre-configured number of items in the DASH Bar Chart Widget. Customer wanted to show just the five mount points with the highest "Space Used Percent" for the Unix or Linux Disk attribute group. Unfortunately, the Bar Chart widgets in DASH, as well as lot of other widgets, does not allow to specify the amount of rows needed from the dataprovider. Furthermore, ITM dataprovider is just going to send back all data requested, and then you can perform some actions on... [More]
There are a few points that you may need to address before trying to install MS and one fix post-installation. Assuming following base configuration for MS host: SLES 12 SP2 on x86_64 IBM WebSphere ND 9.0 . 2 IBM DB2 10.1 64bit 1) First of all, you need to obtain the following part number from Passport Advantage website or DVD CN5V9EN ( IBM Tivoli Composite Application for Application Diagnostics V7 . 1.0 . 4 : Managing Server Component , Linux on x86 , English ) 2) DB2 Connector: Make sure a DB2 connector is... Continuation of ITCAM4Transactions - AMC - Best practices and pitfalls (Part 1) blog : 13) Issue : The "Applications" folder does not appear in TEP portal . Under TEP client GUI -> Navigator -> <T3 node> -> Application Management Console : there is no "Applications" folder. example of good view in TEP Navigator: Sometimes, the above "Applications" folder attribute doesn't show up. Possible solution : a) check first that the t3... [More]
So you've been working on your WAS Agent and can't figure out why the Data Collector and Agent are not connecting to your APM server. Your friendly support L2 engineer suspects that the problem may be on the agent side, and has requested that you collect the Agent and Data Collector logs and upload it to your pmr. To do this, you will need to run both pdcollect and kyncollect.sh scripts to get all the WAS agent and DC diagnostic, config and logs data. Here are the super easy steps to do just that, it should take... [More]
1) WRT does not report in TEP, under the "Transactions" view, an expected Transaction that is defined with some Filters configured in AMC configuration editor settings. Filters defined to report this transaction, under the Filter tab : URLHostName = <host> URLPath = <path> URLFile = <file> Example below: Expected good results as below, where the... [More]
Hi folks, So today we're going to talk about ITMSuper and one way you could use it, and another reason or two why you shouldn't and what's available to replace it. Let's start with ITMSuper and Internet Explorer v10 onwards. It's possible that login window in ITMSuper might not appear when you're using IE10/11 as your browser. The way to get around this is to enable compatibility view. If you press F12, you'll see a whole lot of stuff pop up at the bottom of your screen, that's fine, you can... [More]
Hello again folks, I'm back once more with another quick little blog that I hope might help some of you out there. It's a bit of an odd one, but hopefully it'll mean you don't need to log a PMR with us to get it clarified. Sometimes you might see the message " KDS9141I " in your logs. Okay so far, right? Well, sometimes you'll have an instance where this message will display the wrong HTEMS address. This only seems to happen after the RTEMS has switched from one HUB to another.... [More]
This issue was first reported in an earlier post, specifically addressed for changes done by using the VI editor: https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/381184/http-agent-reports-website-offline-after-editing-h/ However, other editing tools do not provide mechanisms to preserve the i-node number of the target file. (As explained above, KHT agent uses the file pathname to generate the i-node) For example, in order to alter the httpd.conf file you can use SED as follows: sed -i "s/^old/new/g" httpd.conf ... If you upgrade the ITCAM for Application Diagnostics on z/OS to 184.108.40.206, you may notice that the DC no longer can connect to both the MS and the z/OS TEMA. If you remove that APAR and go back to the previous version, you will see the issue go away. The reason for this is that here was a packaging problem in PTF UI44781 in FP4. This was fixed with 71 FP4 IF1, so upgrading to this version, PTFs: UI50238 and UI50239, will resolve the issue.
In several instances many TCR users upgrade from 2.X to 3.X release. The one thing that is useful in such scenarios is to migrate the content store. I will highlight these steps with screenshots in the following post: Login to the reporting portal, ensure the report is part of My Folders for test users Click Launch > Administration Select Configuration Under this selection go to Content Administration Click "New Export" icon Enter a suitable name for the backup folder Make the highlighted selections on the next screen Select... The APM Dev team has come up with a free LiveDemo App that's always available. This LiveDemo App can be used to demonstrate common APM functions and capabilities, such as tracking and viewing transactions end to end. Its also used to identify areas that cause performance degradation's that impact user interactivity. You can see things like server response metrics, volume, transactions, response time metrics and trending information. The LiveDemo App provides an useful APM interactive user experience, and... I think most of you already dealt with scenarios where you had to control the availability of a specific process and create a situation that fires if that process stops running. This is done using the "Missing" function in the situation editor. To help with processes having command line length exceeding 768 characters, in Unix and Linux OS agent you also have Process Filter attribute, that enable in using Regular expressions to filter in processes at data collection time, so that you can get only the processes of interest for the... TEPS transaction log full SQLSTATE=57011 Have been seeing a number of these issues recently, where the TEPS is not behaving correctly due to the database transaction log being full. The issues can vary; in some cases the TEPS does not start, in other cases the report is of agents not showing correctly, or the TEPS starting but not connecting to the TEMS, and users not being able to login. Reviewing the TEPS logs; either <teps... [More]
