After a colder than normal winter in North Carolina, Spring is finally here. While today's high of 45F is nearly 20 degrees below normal, this past Saturday gave a taste of Spring with a beautiful, sunny 74F day. After hibernating most of the Winter, these turtles came out in force at a local pond to see what is new under the sun.
So what else is new this Spring? It is the new ITM HMC Base agent v188.8.131.52, and it might replace your CEC Base agent. If you have used the CEC Base agent, you have probably know the requirement that the AIX... [More]
You can use the cluster utility to add multiple SQL Server agent instances to a cluster group in a cluster environment. The cluster utility automatically adds the agent service and the collector service of each SQL Server agent instance as a generic service resource to the cluster group. Prerequisites for using the cluster utility - The computer on which the cluster utility is installed must have at least one group in the cluster environment. - The remote registry service must be started for all nodes in the cluster. - The... The HMC Base agent v184.108.40.206 Beta is now available as a part of the Open Beta Drivers for ITM vNext. The major enhancement to this release is new attribute groups and attributes that monitor CPU utilization for Servers, CPU_Pools, and LPARs. This might eliminate your need to run the CEC Base agent, which depends on collecting CPU data directly from all the LPARs. The CEC Base agent requires LPARs be in a monitored state. This means the LPARs must be running AIX/VIOS and the agent must be able to communicate with the XMTOPAS daemon in each.... [More]

IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.3 FixPack 1 introduced a first stage of convergence between Unix OS Agent (KPX) and Premium Agent (KPX) on AIX platform. The new KUX agent introduced a set of metrics coming from the Premium Agent as described in the following link: Attributes The data collection of these metrics is done by a new daemon (aixdp_daemon) that is controlled by the Unix OS Agent and it is enabled by default and can be controlled (locally or remotely using tacmd CLI) using the KUX_AIXDP configuration variable. A poorly written situation can have large impact on CPU usage of IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.x OS Agents main processes (kuxagent, klzagent and kntcma.exe). Using wildcard characters (*) and MISSING function in situations is one of the most common source of high impact on CPU usage related to situations evaluation. There are two main suggestions to follow while rewriting situations in order to reduce ITM OS Agents CPU usage: situation with this simple pattern 'LIKE "*/process"' can be re-written as 'SCAN "/process"' put the...
