What is ITM?
IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) proactively manages the health and availability of your IT infrastructure, end to end, including operating systems, databases and servers, across distributed, z/OS and host environments. In CSI-IT Labs, our initiative is to monitor all systems in the labs for the purpose of increased utilization and network optimization, thus reducing expenses. For that, we are using ITM to monitor disk I/O, CPU, memory, physical disk, and network usage.
ITM consists of HUB TEMS (hTEMS), Remote TEMS (rTEMS), Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) and Data Warehouse (TDW). This is a basic layout, but other products can also be configured and added to the Data Center depending on what your monitoring focus is.

What is the impact when ITM is down?
The impact of a down ITM can be severe, resulting in a loss of revenue, customer dissatisfaction and security breach. It is imperative to avoid it. However, if an ITM server does go down, quickly restore the ITM to full capacity.

How will ITM 6.3 help us?
As we notice from above, ITM 6.3 has many features. In CSI-IT Data center, ITM helps monitor system utilization, detects potential problems and sends alerts. ITM provides availability and recovery with quick incident virtualization and historical for fast research. We use ITM to monitor power and cooling temperatures to help manage our Data Center growth. The temperature and power data is rendered into JazzSM.
