Apply maintenance to the IBM HTTP Server installed with IBM Tivoli Monitoring

Beginning with the 6.2.3 release of IBM Tivoli Monitoring, the IBM HTTP Server became the default HTTP server for the portal server, replacing the integrated web server built into the basic services framework. It provides greater scalability and reliability, and also was required for the introduction of the HTTP/JSON protocol for portal client to portal server communication.
As with any external component included in ITM, the maintenance release team evaluates the latest IHS fix pack and determines if an IHS uplift is needed in the next ITM fix pack. Sometimes, however, the IHS team releases maintenance for a critical security defect at a point where it is too late to include an IHS uplift in the new fix pack. Rather than wait months for a future ITM fix pack to deliver the IHS uplift that includes a needed security fix, you can use the IBM Update Installer to upgrade the IHS installed by ITM.
Download and Install the Update Installer
ITM 6.2.3 ships with IHS V126.96.36.199. To upgrade this version of IHS, first download the latest Update Installer V7.0 from the desired platform link below:
At the time of this blog post, the latest version of the Update Installer is 188.8.131.52. Please search the IBM support site for technotes pointing to newer versions prior to downloading from the above links.
Please download the bit version corresponding to the bit version of ITM installed. For example, if you have a 32-bit version of ITM installed on a 64-bit Windows platform, you must download the 32-bit version of the Update Installer.
The Update Installer can be installed via a GUI installation wizard or from the command line via the installer (install.exe on Windows, udpateinstall.sh on Linux/AIX) and a response file (named resp

Download and Install the IHS Fix Pack or Interim Fix
IHS fix packs are included as part of IBM WebSphere Application Server maintenance releases. First download the latest IHS fix pack for the desired platform from the link below:
ITM 6.2.3 uses IHS v7.0, so select the link under the heading "Latest Fix Pack for WebSphere Application Server V7.0". If you are installing an interim fix, download the interim fix pak file. Make sure you download the appropriate architecture for your IHS installation (i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit). To determine the architecture, run the versionInfo script, located in the following platform specific directories:
When you installed the Update Installer above, it creates a directory named “maintenance” in the inst
Now you must run the Update Installer to install the IHS fix pack or interim fix. Note that this does not mean running the Update Installer installer, as you did above. The Update Installer may be run via a GUI installation wizard (i.e. the Update Installer launcher in the Windows Start menu) or from the command line via the update executable (update.exe on Windows, update.sh on Linux/AIX) and a response file. When using the GUI installer, make sure to change the directory path to the location of your IHS installation (ex. on Windows, C:\IBM\ITM\IHS, on Linux, /opt
To confirm the IHS upgrade was successful, run the versionInfo script again to confirm that the patch you downloaded is now installed. No other modifications to IHS or plug-in configuration files are required.
The manual instructions for 6.3.0 have been replaced with a self-contained package that includes the IHS fix pack and any required PSIRT interim fix packs, and a script that automates the installation process. This package is provided as part of the ITM PSIRT remediation process. Please search the IBM technote database for the desired packages.
