Message Broker agent: historical data collection for Accounting Message Flow Statistics

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Message Broker agent: historical data collection for Accounting Message Flow Statistics

Body

It's often a problem for customers to correctly set up historical data collection for Accounting Message Flow Statistics (KQITACMF).
Here we will see the 3 simple but important steps to put in place the correct configuration.

1) First of all you need to enable/start historical data collection for Accounting Message Flow Statistics from History Collection Configuration panel on TEP

Refer to http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSTFXA_6.3.0/com.ibm.itm.doc_6.3/adminuse/history_configurecollection_tep.htm

2) Second, as mentioned at:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SS3JRN_7.2.1.1/com.ibm.itcama.doc_7.2.1.1/kqi_userguide/r-wks_accounting.html?lang=en
you need to verify that agent configuration file (kqi.xml for the default instance) has the proper value for defaultHistoricalAccountingType (Archive, Snapshot or All). This must be the same as the type of statistics activated on WebSphere message Broker side.
The defaultHistoricalAccountingType parameter determines which type of accounting data to be collected historically. Do not set this parameter to All or Snapshot unless necessary. This parameter is useful only when the historical data collection has been enabled. If historical data collection is enabled for any of the accounting tables, the accounting data is kept in the agent memory till the data is collected by historical collection. Always set the same collection interval for all the accounting data.

Also, as mentioned at the same link above:
Exception: Historical data cannot be collected for the following workspaces:
     Snapshot Accounting Message Flow Statistics
     .....

3) Finally, you need to make sure that the Message Flow on the WebSphere Message Broker side has been configured to generate the same type of accounting statistics as reported in the agent configuration file (kqi.xml for the default instance).
To correctly enable statistics generation you can use command:
mqsichangeflowstats <broker name> -a -g -j -o xml -c active -n basic -t basic
where the "-a" switch allows generation of Archive accounting statistics and the "-c active" is to activate the generation of statistics.
For the complete syntax of this command, refer to https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSMKHH_9.0.0/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/an28420_.htm
