Making your life easier: DEMO TRIAL IBM Monitoring and APM v8.1 on-SaaS

In this new blog, I want to show you a new feature that IBM is giving us to improve our acknowledge on APM/IM V8 and doing more familiar this “new” product ("SERVICEENGAGE") . I know that rivers of sweat run in our forehead when we heard about IM 8.1 : What is it?, how does it work? What about ITM6? Where can I check it or install it?....... Now little by little we goes discovering that although it is different (I'm not going to lie you ) to the previous ITM 6.x, it is not so different as we thought at the beginning.

Perhaps we think we have lost some things with this change but we have to appreciate all things we are going to win: a single server with agents connected, quick installation , a very easy maintenance, the possibility about having the sever in SaaS and nothing to say the amount of new agents built to cover our needs.

 

 

 

If I have understood a thing with this product is that it is not a static product but it is “live” and evolves each second..... like the “LIFE” at the moment.

 

 

 

As facing any change may be frightening for some of us, IBM gives us the possibility to approach us to APM/IM v81 with a little training DEMO where we can execute some tasks and discover what we can do with this product and to be more familiar with the interface and the possibilities it offers us:

A. How to access the training APM demo

 

 

1. Open the url: http://www.ibmserviceengage.com and click on "products" button  up right corner.

2. Scroll down searching for “Performance management” and Click in “learn” button:

 

 

 

 

3. Click on “Explore live demo”

 

 

4. Now, you can click on any “demo” button:

 

 

 

5. After filling in the following form:

 

 

 

 

the  “DEMO” with some “tasks/exercices” is open:

 

 

 

 

 

Surely after following these demo, you'll be willing to do it yourself and want to test the monitoring in your env. But..... How can I get the product for testing ? How can I get a machine if the requirements are so huge when I want only to play? How can I try a SaaS environment without buying anything?........ I can tell you that IBM has thought about that as well and give us the possibility of having an APM server in SaaS and install any agent locally in our own environment to be monitored for 30 days free and can learn before buying it.

 

 

B. How to access training free environment.

 

1. Click on “Start your Free Trial” button.

 

2. Now, you fill in a new form and click on “Register”:

 

 

3. You will get this screenshot and a few minutes you will get a confirmation email

 

 

 

 

4. Once we get the first email, we will have to validate our email address and wait for another email with the instructions for using APM trial (NOTE: it may take a while, don't get nervous )

 

 

5. In the new email we got this message:

 

 

 

6. Clicking on “my services” our experience with APM 8 starts:

 

 

 

7. Clicking on “Launch” we open our PM server in SaaS which is still emptied without any agent installed:

 

 

8. Clicking on “Manage” + “Download Agents” you can download and check the instructions to install and configure  any agent:

 

 

 

 

 

9. After downloading and installing the windows OS agent (for example) in our local machine, it is connected to our SaaS APM server, registered and monitored:
