Abstract

ITM Agent Insights: Explanation of ports used by the IBM Tivoli Common Reporting

Body

This blog provide and explanation of which ports are opened by the IBM® Tivoli® Common Reporting server, and which should be enabled on a firewall to get access to the Tivoli Common Reporting Web console.

Port configuration at the installation time
IBM Tivoli Common Reporting (TCR) server requires a range of 14 port numbers, starting with the port number entered during an interactive installation wizard (GUI or console mode). The default port number which starts the sequence is 16310. However, the silent installation mode enables manual port assignment for each application server component. Therefore, the TCR server installed in a silent mode may not use 14 subsequent port numbers.

Web application ports
By default, the port 16310 listens for non-secure HTTP connections while the port 16316 for secure ones. Additionally, the default behavior is that if a user points the browser to the a non-secure (HTTP) connection on port 16310, for example:
   http://<hostname>:16310
the connection gets redirected to a secure one (HTTPS) which takes place on port 16316,  for example:
   https://<hostname>:16316/ibm/console
Hence, in a default scenario it is enough to have port 16316 opened on a firewall and use the secure connection URL.
