Welcome to the Application Performance Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from APM experts. This Blog provides insights into the Application Performance Management solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
Following on from Mark's excellent videos on how to check you have all of the prerequisites in place, we will now focus on the actual installation of the APM on-premise server component, and take you through the steps and options available during installation and show you how to log into the APM GUI for the first time.
The following video takes you step by step through a typical installation of the APM server component. Be aware that the actual install can take an hour or more and in the interest of keeping your interest we've edited out the boring parts where not much is happening...
Last Minute Checklist...
(1) Ensure you have the correct installation media (currently at the time of writing there is only the Linux based install package for the APM server)
The part number, dependent on the version of APM you are entitled to, can be found here
(2) If you optionally want to configure the Agent packages during the installation of the APM server, download and save them to the same host where you intend to install the APM server (the video shows how to add the agent configuration to the APM server installation steps)
(3) Ensure your Linux kernel is 2.6.32-573.el6.x86_64 (RHEL r6.7 Santiago) or higher
(4) Ensure you run the installation as 'root'
Now your ready to install!
