It's a new month and I'm back again with another quick blog for TCR that I hope you'll find useful. Recently I had a customer who was trying to install TCR 3.1 on Linux using IBM Installation Manager and he was trying to do this as a non-root user. This was failing with an error of -
Failed in Configuring Reporting Services DB
This was failing before any actual TCR files were laid down, so all we had to work with were the Installation Manager logs. Now to get to the root of this, you might need to dig through some layers of logging. The Installation Mnaager .xml file should show you some further information to help you narrow down the actual log you need to see. So in this instance, we had this message in the XML log -
And it's THIS log that actually has the root error that's spawned all the others. In this particular instanced the actual root problem was -
This is a known issue and we actually have some technotes that already exist. So if you're installing as an account other than Root, you're getting the error listed above, and you're seeing this message in the underlying log from IM, I would suggest you try the following two remediation steps before you contact Support for further assistance.
1. Ensure your UMASK is set to 022
2. Make sure that your non-root user account is a member of the db2iadm1 group
In this instance these two technotes allowed my customer to successfully complete his install and we could close the PMR out.
