IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers 11.6.0

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers 11.6.0 increase usable capacity per rack typically to one petabyte or more with IBM Real-time Compression (using a 15-module system with 6 TB disk drives), greatly reducing effective cost per capacity without additional hardware. By leveraging XIV grid-scale architecture, compression performance is optimized for enterprise- level and cloud workloads. IBM Real-time Compression uses the field- proven and patented IBM Random Access Compression Engine (RACE) technology, achieving market-leading compression ratios and enterprise-grade performance with compressible data.

With compression, mobilizing data using replication or IBM Hyper-Scale Mobility requires smaller bandwidth, delivering higher return on investment of XIV disaster recovery and mobility capabilities. XIV world-class management with IBM Real-time Compression provides continuous prediction of compression ratios on active volumes, reporting compression ratios of already compressed volumes, generation of new compressed volumes, as well as nondisruptive conversion of existing volumes from uncompressed data to compressed data, and vice versa. IBM XIV Storage software 11.6.0 support for IBM Real-time Compression is available with the Gen3 systems and as an upgrade to existing IBM XIV Storage System Gen 3 Models 214 and 114.

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers 11.6.0 supports Microsoft Azure Site Recovery, enabling customers using System Center Virtual Machine Manager to seamlessly orchestrate and manage XIV replication and disaster recovery with Microsoft virtual machine infrastructure.

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers 11.6.0

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers deliver ultra-efficiency for your data center and cloud with higher density, and lower cost per capacity by introducing support for IBM Real-time Compression. As a software alternative to hardware- based capacity scaling, IBM Real-time Compression also helps achieving the green objectives of your enterprise data center while reducing environmental costs. When combined with Real-time compression, the high utilization and power efficiencies of XIV 6 TB disk drives will deliver outstanding data economics to your high-end storage.

Real-time Compression is supported by XIV Models 114 and 214, delivering the following capabilities:

IBM XIV Real-time Compression Trial

IBM is offering current IBM Storage XIV Gen3 customers the opportunity to evaluate the new Real-time Compression capability at no cost for 45 days. Customers who wish to take advantage of this opportunity to evaluate Real-time Compression in their own environment with actual applications must enable the function, and execute the evaluation guide. The 45-day evaluation period begins when the XIV Real-time Compression function is enabled. At the end of the evaluation period, customers must either purchase the required licenses for Real-time Compression or disable the function. Customers taking advantage of this opportunity must work with their local IBM Business Partner or their IBM sales representative through the evaluation process to apply the right IBM XIV Storage software version, resolve any issues and questions related to the evaluation, and conclude the evaluation period. If the customers decide to use IBM Storage XIV Gen3 Real-time Compression once the evaluation period is over, it is their responsibility to ensure that they are properly licensed.

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers 11.6.0 supports Microsoft Azure Site Recovery, enabling customers using System Center Virtual Machine Manager to seamlessly orchestrate and manage XIV replication and disaster recovery with Microsoft virtual machine infrastructure.

IBM XIV Storage System Software 11.5.1

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers are designed to provide a performance boost for 6 TB SED-based systems.
