Overview
As the Internet becomes a more integral part of conducting electronic business, OS/390 (TM) servers are making it easier and safer to put your business data on the Web with additional and improved functions. These functions, along with the proven strengths of S/390 (R) -- continuous computing, secure transactions, large business databases, and scalable servers -- allow you to build a secure presence on the Internet, extend the value of existing content, and expand network applications by providing better service and more capabilities to your customers.
Domino (TM) Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 replaces Internet Connection Secure Server for OS/390 Version 2.2 (ICSS 2.2). It adds to the rich list of functions already available in Domino Go Webserver 4.6 for OS/390, which includes Web Usage Mining, integrated into OS/390 Version 2 Release 4.
Domino Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 is orderable as a no-charge product now and will be integrated into OS/390 Version 2 Release 5 in March 1998. The highlights of the new Domino Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 are:

IBM provides a comprehensive set of Internet products and solutions that can Web-enable your business. With the new Domino Go Webserver product, a business can effectively promote its corporate messages, provide marketing information, give sales support to customers, gain a competitive edge by having its own home pages accessible, and conduct electronic commerce on the Web. Access to the Web pages can be kept within a company or made available outside of the company.
The predecessor product, IBM Internet Connection Secure Server for OS/390Version 2 Release 2, provides the capability to establish a WWW secure presence on the Internet and conduct secure business-critical electronic commerce. Some of the features and functions that provide this capability are:
New Features
Domino Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 (Domino Go Webserver) has incorporated improvements that extend its leadership position.
Three implementations of the security function exist, one for the U.S. and Canada, one for France, and one for all other countries. The U.S. and Canadian version cannot be made available outside the U.S. or Canada since it contains DES, triple DES, 128-bit RC2, and 128-bit RC4 cryptographic algorithms for bulk data encryption as well as up to 1024-bit RSA key exchange. Additionally, this product cannot be exported outside the U.S. and Canada to any entities. The version of the product announced outside of U.S., Canada, and France uses DES, 40-bit RC2, and 40-bit RC4 cryptographic algorithms for bulk data encryption as well as up to 512-bit RSA key exchange. The version of the product for France uses 40-bit RC2, and 40-bit RC4 cryptographic algorithms for bulk data encryption as well as up to 512-bit RSA key exchange. Because the cryptographic export regulations are subject to change, refer to the ICS Web pages at:
Year 2000
This product is Year 2000 Ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided all other products, (for example, software, hardware, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange date data with it.
Domino Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 with scalability, improved performance and security, and a policy-driven Workload Manager (WLM) has established itself as the leader in Web serving for business critical electronic commerce. It provides OS/390 customers with an opportunity to apply Internet tools and techniques, such as HTTP, to information and services solutions for corporate users. In addition, the server can be the gateway allowing corporate users to participate in the World Wide Web of information and uses.
Many servers may be present in a network. Hypertext links enable Web clients to automatically and transparently access data stored on any server. For example, OS/2 (R) or AIX (R) servers sited in branch offices or plants can store documents with links to information centrally stored or dynamically provided by an OS/390 server. When centrally-maintained data is requested interactively by a web user, the client request can be processed by the server nearest the required data, if there is a server on the same platform as the data. If there is no server on the host system, the remote server must rely on distributed data techniques for access.
Domino Go Webserver is especially important to OS/390 installations desiring to position themselves for delivery of information, products, and services to the millions of users with Web browsers. With the increasing importance of electronic commerce, the security feature provides a means of conducting secure business transactions on the Internet for those Web browsers enabled with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Examples of the types of transactions users may want to use the secure function for are customer registration, product search, product display, product purchasing, and payment.
OS/390 proxy servers, which make requests on behalf of clients, can simplify network design, provide additional privacy, and improve responsiveness by caching frequently accessed information.
HTML documents and binary resources (images, sound clips, and video clips) to be stored on an OS/390 repository may originate anywhere. Typically, image, sound, and video data are originated by multi-media workstations. HTML text can be created by using any suitable authoring tool available on workstations, or by using editors and text processors available on OS/390.
The Domino Go Webserver 4.6.1 for OS/390 will be orderable, for no charge, beginning October 28, 1997, under program number 5697-C58.
For customers that run MVS/ESA (TM) SP (TM) Version 5.2.2, OS/390 Release 1, or OS/390 Release 2 and want Internet server capability, IBM Internet Connection Secure Server V2R1 (ICSS V2R1) will continue to be available at no charge.
For customers that run OS/390 Release 3, ICSS V2R2 will continue to be available at no charge.
The appropriate curricula will be updated, as necessary, to include the enhancements in this announcement.
Details of the education support will be provided by product availability through separate Education Announcement letter(s).
Descriptions of all classroom and self-study courses are contained in the IBM education catalogs.
