Description

Top rule

The increasing need for faster business insights, combined with the explosive growth of data, presents unique opportunities and challenges for companies wanting to take advantage of their mission-critical resources. Built on the proven, trusted availability, security, and scalability of Db2 12 for z/OS and the IBM Z platform, the gold standard in the industry, Db2 13 VUE brings you deep learning AI capabilities, improved performance, and synergy with the new IBM z16 hardware.

Db2 13 VUE delivers innovations in these key areas:

New SQL Data Insights feature

SQL Data Insights is a new optional, no-charge feature that provides the user interface for training models and exploring data insights. Db2 13 VUE provides the in-database infrastructure for training and model table (vector table) management. Clients can use this feature to embed deep-learning AI capabilities into Db2 to uncover insights based on hidden relationships and inferred meaning of Db2 data AI-related. The currently implemented AI-related built-in functions in SQL Data Insights are partially ZIIP eligible.

AI infused in Db2 for z/OS for improved performance

Db2 13 VUE is infused with AI capabilities that help to better serve business and technical insights with improved support for application growth and performance with smarter insert processing, reducing the need for DBA performance-tuning expertise. Additionally, Db2 13 VUE is also designed to deliver the following:

  • Fast index traversal (FTB) support for larger index keys without application changes.
  • Improved insert performance for PBG tablespaces.
  • With Db2 13 VUE, APREUSE offers the option to manage a more granular level access path reuse and reduce error or warning cases from rewritten queries.
  • Helps reduce downtime for implementing application changes.
  • Improved index maintenance operations.
  • Reduced overhead for replication of subsets and data partitions.

For information about many additional features delivered in Db2 13 VUE, see Software Announcement 222-003, dated April 5, 2022.

Modern hybrid cloud infrastructures may become complex to manage efficiently and effectively. IBM is embracing autonomics to augment human intervention and help lower cost through efficiency to help ensure the highest achievable availability.

Db2 AI for z/OS 1.5 builds on Watson Machine Learning for z/OS to apply machine learning to IT operations. It leverages AI and machine learning technology to help optimize Db2 for z/OS subsystems. Enterprises can more quickly identify, respond, and resolve issues, minimizing impact to the business and maintaining operational continuity.

Db2 AI for z/OS helps uncover the root causes of database performance issues and makes database performance improvement recommendations. It determines the best query paths for increased efficiency and optimizes sort and SQL concurrency for reduced workload latency and better performance. The Distributed Connection Control feature automatically learns about connection and thread behavior of remote applications to recommend Db2 profile controls that can prevent connection flooding from impacting other applications. This helps ensure Db2 for z/OS systems continue to perform reliably, efficiently, and cost-effectively even under the most demanding circumstances.

Db2 AI for z/OS 1.5 offers unique operational insights and deeper drill down into Db2 system health by connecting the dots of existing Db2 AI for z/OS component data to provide insight that otherwise would be done manually.

Clients will receive:

  • A quick overview of Db2 health and performance at-a-glance and deeper drill down capability for root cause analysis on the timeline for each connection type
  • Further drill down at distributed connection and thread usage, by IP addresses, client user IDs, and application names
  • Aggregated accounting information for additional application-level insights for exception and correlation analysis in System Assessment

Most DBAs understand applications by application names or user IDs and not necessarily by IP addresses. With enhanced distributed thread management in Db2 AI for z/OS 1.5, additional profile recommendations are based on client user IDs and application names, further improving the usability of Distributed Connection Control. This allows DBAs to use the information directly without additional time spent translating IP addresses into applications and user IDs.

Note: Profile management, profile recommendations, and Insights drill down by client user IDs and application names in Distributed Connection Control function for Db2 13 VUE will be delivered through continuous delivery in APARs PH44814 and PH44815.

Some clients have multiple versions of the same database applications in production. Therefore, Db2 AI for z/OS 1.5 provides support for packages with multiple versions for the SQL Optimization feature.

Db2 AI for z/OS 1.5 also provides better operational control over its processing by supporting the granular start/stop ML command. Using this function, users can choose which feature of Db2 AI for z/OS they want to be active at any given time. For example, users can choose to have all three features, SQL Optimization, System Assessment and DCC, on. Alternatively, by using the start/stop ML function, they can also choose if they want to only have SQL Optimization turned on while having System Assessment and DCC turned off and vice versa, depending on their primary use case.

Enhancements delivered through maintenance and included in Db2ZAI 1.5 include:

  • Better control over access path updates and filtering in SQL optimization
    • An option for self-healing rebinds to always be done manually rather than automatically
    • SQL Optimization UI enhancements such as adding new filtering enhancement, enhanced access path history details, and improved SQL scope setting and package search
  • Usability enhancements based on client feedback
    • Enhanced and simplified work period definition in UI to be able to handle large numbers of subsystems easily
    • Granular user authorization control
    • Automation to start/restart Db2 traces necessary to SQL optimization and DCC
    • Improved serviceability and console messages for ease of diagnosis

IBM Watson Machine Learning for z/OS 2.4 provides the flexibility to train your models in your framework of choice and on any platform, including IBM Cloud Pak for Data, then readily deploy those models on IBM Z to gain the unique advantage of inferencing in-transaction, in real time.

WMLz 2.4 leverages the power of the new Telum chip in the next generation of IBM Z hardware to help accelerate deep learning model inferencing. Adaptive Micro-Batching for deep learning model scoring also helps improve the performance of the ONNX scoring engine. This enables users to deploy deep learning models in their critical applications without considerable performance overhead.

This release offers the ONNX Scoring Engine on native z/OS, resulting in more optimized scoring by enabling a deep learning scoring engine to run in the same CICS® region as the consuming application.

WMLz 2.4 delivers features that enhance the usability of WMLz as follows:

  • WMLz Instance Cloning enables users to do mass setup for new WMLz instances on different LPARs. This also helps ease the movement of instances from one environment, such as preproduction, to another environment, such as production, or have multiple WMLz instances for additional resiliency.
  • Job Name Customization provides the ability to overwrite the default job name for initial configuration.

WMLz 2.4 streamlines integration between WMLz and Watson Studio trusted AI capabilities, enabling enterprises to help ensure that their scoring models on IBM Z remain fair, explainable, and compliant. WMLz 2.4 also has security enhancements and provides AT-TLS support.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM Z IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each IBM Z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each IBM Z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for an IBM Z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs.
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise.
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit.
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice versa, use the Value Unit Converter tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter tool, see the IBM Z software pricing tools website. Select "Download" under VU Converter to obtain the converter tool.

Note that Value Units of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another program.

To determine the required license capacity for the IBM Z IPLA program you selected, see the Terms and conditions section.

It will analyze your current installation, determine the correct product migration, and present your new configuration based on z/OS. Additional products can also be added to your order (including determination of whether all product requisites are satisfied). For more details and availability, go to the Shopz website.

The products in this announcement have one charge unit - Value Units.

  MSUs Value Units/MSU
Base 1-3 5.25
Tier A 4-45 .83
Tier B 46-175 .35
Tier C 176-315 .26
Tier D 316+ .20

Note: For the actual translation from MSUs to Value Units for this product, see the table that follows.

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If the client has installed 1,000 MSUs, the applicable Value Units would be:

  MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 5.25 = 15.75
Tier A 42 * .83 = 34.86
Tier B 130 * .35 = 45.50
Tier C 140 * .26 = 36.40
Tier D 685 * .20 = 137
  -----       ---
Total 1,000       270

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the total is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program ID referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these programs with a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance. This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support by telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new programs.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless canceled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA IBM Z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only through CBPDO and ServerPac. These customized offerings are offered for internet delivery. For more details on Internet delivery, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

IBM recommends internet delivery. However, if you still require physical media, you can choose DVD.

Many products can be ordered in ServerPac the month following their availability in CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered through CBPDO and ServerPac on the planned availability date. Many products will also be orderable in a ServerPac without also having to order the z/OS operating system or subsystem.

Shopz and CFSW will determine the eligibility based on product requisite checking. For more details on the ServerPac, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin within 3 business days after the planned availability date.
  • ServerPac availability and shipments will begin within 3 - 4 weeks after the planned product availability date due to additional customization and data input verification.

For more information about mainframe MSU-rated capacities, see the IBM z Systems® Machines Exhibit , Z125-3901, or see the Exhibits section on the IBM Z software pricing resources web page.

IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms add value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each IBM Z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the IBM Z IPLA program must equal the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select IBM Z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of one of the following:

  • Sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC)
  • Sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC)
  • Sub-capacity Advanced Workload License Charges (AWLC)
  • Sub-capacity Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (AEWLC)

To implement sub-capacity WLC, EWLC, AWLC, or AEWLC, a machine must be an IBM Z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating system.
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued.
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode.

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, go to the IBM Z software pricing tools web page.

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for z Systems® Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for EWLC, TWLC, zELC, and z/OS.e License Charges (Z125-6587).

You must comply with all of the terms of the AWLC or AEWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions for AWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM System z® Advanced Workload License Charges (Z125-8538).
  • The complete terms and conditions for AEWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM System z Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (Z125-8755).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - IBM Amendment for IBM System z Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of a sub-capacity eligible reference product and machine.

On/Off CoD

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for IBM System z On/Off Capacity on Demand (Z125-7883) must be signed prior to use.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

Prices

Top rule

For all local charges, contact your IBM representative or your authorized IBM Business Partner.

Variable charges: The applicable processor-based one-time charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed, the charge of the next higher group listed applies. For movement to a machine in a higher group, an upgrade charge equal to the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups will apply. For movement to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of charges paid.
