Description

IBM System Storage DS4000 EXP810 Expansion Unit Model 81-DC

This new model is NEBS-3-compliant for compatibility with Telco central office environments and is designed to be powered from a -48 V dc Telco industry-standard power source.

The EXP810 Expansion Unit Model 81-DC attaches to selected DS4000 series midrange disk systems and comes in a compact, 3U rack-mountable enclosure that accommodates up to 16 E-DDMs, providing a physical storage capacity of up to 8 TB per enclosure.

EXP810 Model 81-DC is an ideal companion to the dc-powered, NEBS-3-compliant DS4700 Express Models 70-DC and 72-DC disk systems. Up to six Model 81-DC expansion units can be attached to either the DS4700 Express Model 70-DC or the DS4700 Express Model 72-DC to build physical storage configurations up to 56 TB.

The Model 81-DC is shipped with two 4 Gbps shortwave small form factor pluggable (SFP) fiber optic transceivers for connection to DS4000 mid-range disk systems. Depending on your configuration, additional SFP transceivers can be added to the EXP810 by use of the Shortwave Transceiver option (26K7941) that populates two additional EXP810 drive ports for configurations consisting of multiple expansion units connected to a midrange disk system.

The EXP810 Model 81-DC has built-in, redundant dc power supplies and cooling components to help improve reliability and availability. The EXP810 Model 81-DC comes with rack mounting rails and dc power cords for connection to a -48 V dc power source.

Refer to the Limitations section for details on EXP810 attachment to selected DS4000 midrange disk systems and compatibility with existing DS4000 Expansion Units.

DC power cables for EXP810 Model 81-DC

Two dc power cords, part number 42D3294, one for each of the dc power supplies contained in the EXP810 Model 81-DC, are supplied in the shipment group for connection to a -48 V dc power source.

The dc power cords are four meters in length, RoHS compliant, and are suitable for domestic and international use.

One end of the dc power cable assembly is terminated with a connector that plugs directly into the mating dc input receptacle on the DS4700 or EXP810 dc power supply. The other end of the cable is terminated with ring terminals (ring terminals fit a 6mm diameter pin or stud) for attachment to a dc power source.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate, but complementary, elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
