Overview
Bottom rule

The IBM Regulatory Compliance Analytics solution, powered by Watson, is designed to be a tool to help financial services institutions effectively track, manage, and monitor their regulatory compliance efforts. In this initial release, by combining the IBM OpenPages® GRC Platform, IBM Watson™ Cognitive Computing, and regulatory content that you choose to bring into the solution, IBM Regulatory Compliance Analytics disaggregates and classifies the regulations you provide, paragraph by paragraph to the sentence level. This can help you to identify where you may have gaps in your control framework by presenting potential new controls that are related to current and emerging regulatory requirements which you select as relevant to your organization.

The client is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations applicable to it. IBM does not provide legal advice or represent or warrant that its services or products will ensure that the client is in compliance with any law or regulation.

Description

Describing the business challenge

Increasing regulatory, social, executive, shareholder, and government pressure is being applied to financial services to improve governance systems and increase transparency. To address this, financial services organizations are committing substantial resources to understand and interpret regulations from overlapping multiple sources.

In addition, the integration of risk and finance data is fundamental to delivering regulatory compliance.

Organizations need enterprise-level solutions that will assist them in reducing the impact of noncompliance and deliver evidence of regulatory compliance in a transparent way while managing exposure to current and emerging regulations.

Mapping regulations to control functions and entities within the organization creates many challenges. How do you identify and develop control functions that comply with multiple regulations, identify where you should expend effort to get the greatest return for investment, and demonstrate your compliance? Can you deliver a board-level view of your global compliance programs, illustrating your compliance status?

Technology that helps you manage your compliance activities can assist you in establishing the areas of focus to become compliant, maintain that compliance and deliver evidence of compliance, potentially leading to a reduction in the overall cost of compliance.

Business solution

The IBM Regulatory Compliance Analytics solution, powered by Watson, offers financial services organizations a tool to track, manage, and monitor their regulatory compliance efforts that can help these same institutions assess their existing internal control coverage and potential gaps in that coverage.

By helping you manage your regulatory compliance processes, IBM Regulatory Compliance Analytics can deliver:

  • A common data model to store any regulatory data for consistent use across the organization.
  • A single version of the truth for regulatory control coverage
  • Help in identification of regulatory compliance exposure and required remediation
  • Help in reduction of compliance costs by centralizing your compliance content in one place
  • Reports that assist in identifying where regulation has impacts across geographic regions
  • Transparency and supporting data to demonstrate how compliance is being managed for the institution

IBM Regulatory Compliance Analytics does not identify what regulations you need to comply with, and does not provide regulatory content.

Outcome

Regulatory Compliance Analytics can help you achieve these goals:

  • A consistent way of managing regulatory content linked to corresponding controls
  • A singular source for all regulatory content for an institution
  • Provide reporting that identifies where control gaps may be in your regulatory program
  • Educate the institution at large on where regulatory impacts may be
  • Identify future requirements forecasting

Regulatory Compliance Analytics can help the following in your organization:

  • The Chief Risk Officer (CRO): Improved and auditable regulatory compliance including SPR; assurance in the quality of risk data, trust in risk data to better manage risk oversight; and risk/return optimization.
  • The Chief Financial Officer: Improved and auditable regulatory compliance in the CFO domain including SPR; trust in the data for forecasting capital and liquidity adequacy; and measuring profitability, risk-adjusted forecasting, and risk-based resource allocation and financial reporting.
  • The risk and compliance staff: Ability to manage regulatory compliance monitoring, gap analysis, and remediation actions.

The client is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations applicable to it. IBM does not provide legal advice or represent or warrant that its services or products will ensure that the client is in compliance with any law or regulation.
