DescriptionDB2 UDB is the database for your warehouse solution. DB2 scales easily across a range of server platforms and architectures, from 100 GB databases to 10 TB databases. Published 100 GB and 10 TB TPC-H benchmarks prove it. DB2 Data Warehouse Editions are available for Linux, Windows® 2000/2003 servers, Solaris, and AIX®. DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition V8.1 and DB2 Data Partitioning Feature V8.1 are included with Data Warehouse Enterprise Edition. New Cube Views DB2 Cube Views V8.1 benefits BI users throughout an organization by decreasing the development time required to define shared OLAP models across multiple tools. New metadata and tooling allow cube views to be defined once in DB2 and used in many leading BI tools. Because the shared common metadata includes aggregation formulas and calculations, users benefit from greater consistency of analytical results across the enterprise. DB2 Data Warehouse Edition includes features designed specifically to improve the usability and performance of Business Partner BI products. Data warehouse administrators can build optimal structures in DB2, based on the recommendations of the Optimization Advisor, improving the performance of OLAP queries generated by partner tools. End users of business analysis tools utilizing DB2-managed metadata experience more consistent query results. Designers find it much quicker and easier to import cube views and mappings from DB2, versus defining the same metadata separately in multiple partner tools. DB2 Query Patroller lets you manage and control all aspects of query submission and execution. Enhancements include server-based SQL intercept from all sources, better SQL statement costing, additional options for result set storage, and simplified installation, configuration, and administration. Query Patroller improves data warehouse scalability so that hundreds of users can safely submit queries, even on databases that contain several terabytes of data. Query Patroller allows an administrator to automatically manage and control all aspects of query submission, acting as agents on behalf of the end user. It prioritizes and schedules queries so that query completion is more predictable and computing resources are efficiently used. Administrators can establish user groups with varying resource limits so that high-priority users will be assured of reasonable system response times, even when the overall system load experiences radical spikes in demand. Additionally, Query Patroller can be set to passively monitor the database query environment so that administrators can graph and analyze database and user community characteristics. DB2 Query Patroller is integrated with the DB2 Optimizer and analyzes query costs, and can then schedule or dispatch the queries so that the load is balanced across the database partitions. With the latest revision, IBM has completely rearchitected Query Patroller from the ground up, integrating the query-governing functionality into the DB2 Query Patroller Center, similar to the DB2 Control Center, and providing an easy-to-use user interface. Query Patroller is completely server-based with no client software required. This allows it to provide global span-of-control, seeing all queries regardless of client application. Database and system administrators implementing data warehouses, data marts, or any database where query response time is an issue, will find the functionality provided by DB2 Query Patroller indispensable. Intelligent Data Mining DB2 UDB Data Warehouse Editions include IBM's industry-leading data mining features. Data mining capabilities in DB2 are standards-based, using XML/PMML and SQL, which makes it easy to learn and use. The advanced DB2-based Intelligent Miner Modeling data mining algorithms generate models that can be visualized using DB2 Intelligent Miner Visualization. The best models can then be integrated into your real-time data warehouse and business applications using DB2 Intelligent Miner Scoring. Software Maintenance Applies: Yes Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Subscription and Technical Support, is now included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support for the products announced in this letter are provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations. IBM includes Software Maintenance with each program acquired during the coverage period. The coverage period means the period commencing on the date you acquire the program up to the first or second anniversary date, depending on whether you acquired coverage for one or two anniversaries. The coverage period for Software Maintenance acquired in the two months preceding an anniversary date will be extended to the next applicable anniversary date.
