Overview

Top rule

The Engineering Lifecycle Management solution helps system and software engineers deliver according to requirements, respond efficiently to change, and create high-quality designs faster while controlling development costs and meeting compliance needs. Engineering Lifecycle Management is a tightly integrated set of capabilities including requirements management, modeling and simulation, quality management, configuration management, and collaborative workflow planning and management.

This release includes enhancements to products that are part of Engineering Lifecycle Management 7.0.2:

  • IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Test Management 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Workflow Management 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Systems Design - Rhapsody®-Model Manager 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management Base 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Engineering Insights 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Publishing 7.0.2
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Method Composer 7.6.2
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management Automotive Compliance 1.0.2

The following products are part of the Engineering Lifecycle Management 7.0.2 portfolio, but are not updated as part of this release:

  • IBM Engineering Requirements Quality Assistant
  • IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS
  • IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Web Access
  • IBM Engineering Systems Design - Rhapsody

Version 7.0.2 of Engineering Lifecycle Management brings a wide range of enhancements to the offering's feature set.

User experience

  • Improved linking and navigation from work items to requirements, tests, and model elements in a global configuration context, which can help teams see, use, and report on defects, tasks, and change requests in the context of the overall product configuration
  • Capability to create links by using drag-and-drop or copy-paste gestures within and across the Engineering Lifecycle Management portfolio, including requirements management, test management, and work management
  • A consistent and smarter user selection capability to manage artifact owners and subscribers, collaborate through comments, and add users to reviews
  • Easier linking between Engineering Workflow Management work items and GitHub commit or pull requests with a new Chrome browser plug-in

Security and compliance

  • Engineering Lifecycle Management Eclipse-based clients and other non-web clients can now take advantage of multifactor authentication and single sign-on system implementations for application passwords using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) or OpenID Connect (OIDC).

Requirements management

  • A requirements comparison report is now available, comparing the requirement artifacts in two configurations. The DOORS Next Reportable REST API is expanded to provide additional information used in the DOORS Next comparison report. The report uses a template, which can be modified by or used as an example for users of PUB Document Studio (sold separately).
  • DOORS Next data compliance capability reports if data is not compliant with the standard ReqIF XLM scheme.

Performance

  • Optimized incremental loads are now available when using load rules. This provides faster turnaround when doing rebuilds with few or no changes. This feature updates the sandbox faster for Jazz builds and Engineering Workflow Management Jenkins builds.

Data scale

  • Engineering Test Management has been tested with 20 million artifacts and 2,500 components.
  • Engineering Workflow Management (EWM) enables storage of work item attachments outside the database in a filesystem or through WebDAV in an external repository-like Artifactory. These are the same external storage options available for large files that are managed by the Engineering Workflow Management Source Code Management (SCM).

Verification and validation

  • Engineering Test Management supports customization of execution states for test script results, test case results, and test suite results. The default names such as Passed or Failed can be modified and specific execution states can be disabled for a project area from the Manage Project Properties page.
  • Engineering Test Management Excel Importer Utility displays the execution variable values, test environment name and the current configuration during an offline execution. The utility also supports automatic population of the configuration name when exporting to the server.

Reporting

Jazz Reporting Service (JRS):

  • Provides the capability to freeze the header pane in the report table view as users are scrolling through the report
  • Enables alternative location usage for the temporary files that are used during the compaction
  • Provides detailed Lifecycle Query Engine (LQE) status information in Report Builder
  • Provides search functionality that retrieves records from within collapsed groupings in the Report Builder report list

Publishing:

  • Simplifies the data connection association in PUB Document Builder
  • Includes configuration information in OSLC resource picker
  • Adds option to share generated documents and schedules with selected users
  • Provides capability to skip invalid data during document generation

Engineering Insights:

  • View building experience is enhanced.
  • View consumers can view the percentage of artifacts.
  • View authors can drag attributes to sort the nodes, can change properties of multiple containers simultaneously, and can set the link existence value to show artifacts of selected link types.

Serviceability, management, and automation

  • New REST APIs are available to query the Engineering Lifecycle Management applications for readiness to accept work (liveness) and ongoing readiness to do work (heartbeat).

Integration

  • The Engineering Workflow Management to Git integration includes a diagnostics page with guidance for administrators.

Automotive Compliance

  • Additional content to streamline work to support ISO-26262 compliance in DOORS Next, Engineering Test Management, and Engineering Workflow Management
  • Guidance and assistance to perform Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARA) in DOORS Next
  • Predefined process content that maps Automotive Compliance content to ISO-26262:2018 books
  • Predefined reports and views that enable faster understanding of safety requirement readiness and safety anomalies

Method Composer

Improved web authoring capabilities include:

  • Guidance on how to inherit, tailor, compare, and merge variants of processes through Method Composer web authoring. With this guidance, organizations can define a master process and let departments tailor it. Changes can be merged back into the master process with full transparency about the differences and history.
  • Support for the import of user-defined types. This enables shifting of more process authoring to the web client, which is easy to access and decreases difficulty for individuals to participate in process authoring activities.

The Method Composer rich client is now based on Eclipse 4.6.3.

Rhapsody-Model Manager

  • Support for using SAML as the OIDC identity provider in nonbrowser clients, such as the Engineering Workflow Management Eclipse client. This requires Rhapsody 9.0.1 iFix001, and later.
  • Improved serviceability, including improved error handling, logging, and provision of numbers and description for error messages.
  • Support for Chinese and Japanese languages for web viewing in Rhapsody-Model Manager.
  • Alignment with changes in Engineering Workflow Management SCM functions, including support for link creation for Rhapsody-Model Manager artifacts, capability to set global configuration context in Engineering Workflow Management for file link traversals, and capability to switch between local and global configuration contexts.
  • Improved alignment with other components of the Engineering Lifecycle Management platform, such as browsers, databases, operating systems, java, and application servers.

The Rhapsody-Model Manager server can be configured in two ways:

  • As a Model Management Server that consumes a Rhapsody-Model Manager - Systems and Software Engineer license
  • As a Model and Code Management Server that consumes a Rhapsody-Model Manager - Systems and Software Engineer and an Engineering Workflow Manager - Developer license

Functions that are not supported in this release include:

  • IBM Engineering Connector for Internet of Things, part of IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Engineering Insights

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
