Continuing the commitment to Java for IBM Z®, IBM® intends to deliver an IBM SDK for z/OS®, Java Technology Edition version 11. The SDK is planned to support the complete Java 11 language specification, enabling Java 11 compliant applications to be ported to z/OS. The SDK plans to include the JZOS library for Java batch deployments and exploitation of z/OS system services (launcher and toolkit).
Other z/OS specific extensions, such as integration with z/OS access control of cryptographic services and resources (keys/certificates), and support for Z hardware security modules, are planned to be introduced over time via the service refreshes. These subsequent updates are intended to facilitate the Java 11 migration of existing Java applications that require such z/OS extensions.
In addition, IBM intends to deliver TLS 1.3 support for both IBM SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition version 8 and IBM SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition version 11. Enhancements are planned to include support for new cryptographic algorithms required for TLS 1.3, improved exploitation of the latest IBM Z hardware, and an updated FIPS 140-2 compliant security provider.
