IBM Z NetView for continuous availability is designed to help create an automated, cross-platform disaster recovery solution at virtually any distance between a primary site and a recovery site. These capabilities include:

  • Monitoring of Multi-site Workload Lifeline workload and workload servers for Linux® on IBM Z, Systems Network Architecture (SNA) application, and MQ clusters
  • Monitoring of proxy database or file system configuration that provides zero data loss

IBM Z Service Automation Suite V1.2 offers a single point of control for a broad range of systems management functions. The suite provides the visibility, control, and automation of a large range of system elements spanning both the hardware and software resources of enterprises in a sysplex. IBM Z Service Automation Suite provides automation, network management, and scheduling to address business agility on IBM Z.

IBM Z Service Automation Suite is a simply priced, easy-to-order package of products that enables easy deployment of an integrated set of systems management functions.

New in IBM Z Service Automation Suite V1.2:

  • IBM Z System Automation V4.2 introduces application templates (which enable the dynamic provisioning and de-provisioning of applications) and features other important improvements that increase the usability of the product.

IBM Z Service Management Suite V1.6

IBM Z Service Automation Suite V1.2 and IBM Z Service Management Suite V1.6 component enhancements

IBM Z System Automation V4.2

IBM Z System Automation is a policy-based, self-healing, high- availability solution to optimize efficiency and availability of critical systems and applications. It is designed to reduce administrative and operational tasks; customization and programming effort; and automation implementation time and costs that are associated with Parallel Sysplex® automation and policy-based automation. Using the tight integration with Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS), IBM Z System Automation provides sophisticated disaster recovery capabilities for IBM Z.

IBM Z System Automation provides an intuitive and modernized operator experience for application groups by introducing a new application group model. With the new application group model, the administrator can choose from a set of predefined behaviors and can assign roles to the group member. Furthermore, IBM Z System Automation introduces new capabilities in the Customization Dialog to more efficiently and intuitively define messages and their criteria related to alerting and event management. Along with the modernization on the customization side, version 4.2 features new capabilities that streamline management of captured messages, such as for delete operator message (DOM) and for alerting.

Finally, this release introduces the capability for ad-hoc automation of dynamically provisioned resources (such as CICS regions, IMS message processing regions, WebSphere® Liberty Profiles, and similar workloads) that are based on application templates. Some examples include the form of a cloud-like self-service model or along with rapid DevOps-like provisioning workflows. With dynamic resources, administrators can predefine the shape and form of a resource in a template, building a new automation configuration on one template. Later on, a real automation resource can be created from a template by using a command within IBM Z NetView or a request driven, for example, through IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF), without the need to build, distribute, and refresh a new configuration.

Version 4.2 enhancements include:

  • A new model 2 for Application Groups with predefined, scenario-driven behavior, primary, secondary, and operator member roles in contrast to preference values, and modernized INGMOVE and INGGROUP commands that support the new model 2.
  • Enhanced operator experience that includes MOVE Application Groups with a system scope or Application Groups containing Reference Resources running in a different sysplex or on a different platform.
  • Improved rolling recycle of multiple SERVER Application Groups supporting.
  • Enhanced capabilities in the Customization Dialog's Messages and User Data Policy that enable the administrator to consolidate definitions, and that provide flexibility especially when dealing with messages that are captured with a certain severity for the operations team to act on. The capabilities include:
    • Enhanced code matching options for the ISSUEACT command that now supports the definition of a message severity
    • A new dialog that facilitates the definition of captured messages and at the same time enables the administrator to specify not only the severity, but also the options regarding alerting and deleting obsolete messages
    • Support for defining an arbitrary number of exceptional messages that can be captured for the operations team
  • Improved manageability of messages, thresholds, and WLM-resources in schedule environments for resources that are suspended for automation.
  • Improved INGMSGS command that can display an unlimited set of exceptional messages; remove the potential for accidental deletion of write-to-operator-with-reply (WTOR) messages; and provide new command line options to display and manage messages.
  • Improved AOFCPMSG command that can avoid capturing of messages related to resources that are suspended for automation, and that provides more flexibility when working with messages that need to be deleted (such as DOM).
  • An improved INGALERT command that can alert on behalf of critical messages and, if defined as such in the automation policy, on behalf of any captured message. In addition, INGALERT enables the administrator to determine exactly the characteristics and behavior of a clearing event, including the specification to generate no event at all.
  • Several enhancements in Service Management Unite that include:
    • Provision and support of a Service Management Unite Docker image that can be deployed to a z/OS Container Extension (zCX) environment in z/OS V2.4. This enables Service Management Unite to run natively on an IBM Z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) processor in a z/OS address space. Extensive Linux skills and distributed server hardware are not required. The Service Management Unite container can be managed by using standard z/OS means.
    • Enhanced group management views in Service Management Unite that enable operators to better understand and modify the behavior of an automation group. An easy-to-use user interface gives operators access to new group related functions, such as moving a member, changing roles, and excluding systems, without the need to switch to a 3270 console or use a command line interface.
    • A new dashboard that enables operators to view and manage critical messages and outstanding operator replies (WTORs). Operators can delete critical messages and reply to WTORs directly from the dashboard.
  • New dashboards and functionality to view and work with IBM Z NetView information:
    • NetView overview dashboard that shows all NetView domains in the enterprise
    • NetView Utilization dashboard that shows key metrics about a NetView domain and its tasks
    • Dashboard that provides statistics and graphical views regarding the distribution of IP-traffic over Distributed Dynamic Virtual IP-Addresses (DDVIPAs)
    • Dialogs that enable administrators to manage NetView automation tables and create and test message automation statements
  • Introduction of a simple resource pattern, including a parameterized application template that is defined in the Customization Dialog and that enables administrators to specify the basic shape and form of a dynamic APL-type resource. The Customization Dialog provides support to build such a pattern, but unlike with normal resources, it can defer the actual creation of resources in the automation configuration to a later point in time.
  • New command INGDYN that provides the capability to view existing patterns and their instances, as well as create new, dynamic instances from a pattern along with provisioning the corresponding workload, for example, a CICS region, an IMS message processing region, or a WebSphere Liberty Profile. Users can use INGDYN panels to specify the pattern and its parameters or they can use INGDYN from the command line to create dynamic resources, programmatically.
  • Toleration of current IBM z15 hardware.
  • IBM z15 exploitation support for activating a temporary capacity record in support of System Recovery Boost to add reserved zIIP processors through the System Automation Base Control Program Internal Interface (SA-BCPii) via GDPS or through Processor Operations and automated triggering of System Recovery Boost at the begin of a system shutdown phase initiated with the INGREQ command or via GDPS.
  • Improved diagnostics in INGWHY explain new reasons for Application Groups that cannot be stopped.
  • More IBM Z hardware support, including:
    • Exploitation of System Recovery Boost in processor operations that provide GETIBOOST common command with the System Recovery Boost status
    • Performance improvements for LPAR ACTIVATE and DEACTIVATE commands that reduce IPL and shutdown time, and hence recovery times in case of unplanned outages
  • More granular security controls for the following functions or commands:
    • Capability to override resource schedules or general schedules by using INGSCHED
    • Capability to override the next start or shutdown command sequence of a resource by using INGMDFY
    • Capability to release resources waiting in a pacing gate by using INGPAC
    • Capability to manage variables by using INGVARS
    • Capability to modify options in commands INGLINK, INGJLM, INGNTFY, and INGSTOBS
    • Capability to turn logging on and off or to modify the log data sets as specified in the customization dialog
  • New command line parameters in INGPAC to directly display the details of a particular pacing gate and to enable the operator to release resources from the command line or from a script rather than using panels.
  • Provision of the new REXX function INGRCRPC that enables scripts to run NetView commands from TSO REXX programs.
  • Full end-to-end automation support that uses the Universal Automation Adapter of Service Management Unite to start, stop, and monitor resources on non-z/OS platforms, such as Linux and Windows™.
  • Improved time to value for configuring the end-to-end automation adapter by supporting system symbols in the configuration files.
  • Increased size of the Info Link and Owner fields that enables administrators to store more information about a given resource (for example, a link to a company dictionary) that is relevant for the operators; and that is also displayed on the INGINFO panel and others.
  • Enhanced exit AOFEXC17 that enables customization of the event that is produced by INGALERT based on jobname.
  • Enhanced command MDFYSHUT that provides administrators with better control of future shutdown commands based on specific application conditions.

IBM Z System Automation V4.2 is the last release that supports Processor Operations LPAR Management ISQCCMD emulation over System Automation BCPii (Base Control Program Internal Interface) sessions. IBM Z System Automation intends to migrate over time all of its hardware automation functions that are currently using the SA-BCPii protocol to Processor Operations SNMP. This ensures that all clients can benefit from the advanced SA-BCPii support in Processor Operations. The standard SA-BCPii protocol is continued for GDPS.

The following functions are no longer supported with IBM Z System Automation, V4.2:

  • IBM zEnterprise® BladeCenter Extension (zBX) Hardware Management and IBM zEnterprise Ensembles
  • Support for collecting automation data by using the Tivoli System Automation for z/OS Monitoring Agent (TEMA) and feeding that data into the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP)
  • System Automation resource and relationship discovery by using the System Automation Discovery Library Adapter
  • Auto discovery of started tasks to define application policy objects

IBM Z NetView V6.3

IBM Z NetView provides automation, along with network and systems management to address your requirements for business agility on IBM Z. Key capabilities and advanced functions include networking and automation, enhanced enterprise integration, customer time-to-value, and ease of use. System and network automation are provided by IBM Z NetView and addresses the continued drive for increased IT expanding network requirements increase, such as adding mobile devices, the need for a robust network management solution becomes increasingly important.

IBM Z NetView V6.3 provides a modernized user experience through the integration of technologies that make it easier and faster to become productive when using the NetView program. This is accomplished by:

  • Introducing an OpenAPI-conforming NetView server that handles front-end requests from applications and providing RESTful APIs that are suited for industry standardization to interact with automation and network resources. The server can be accessed within Zowe, hosted by the Open Mainframe Project, or independently from an application. The server runs in UNIX® System Services (USS). The following is provided with this support:
    • API documentation that is accessed through the Zowe API Mediation Layer or directly from the server
    • A sample NetView application to be used in Zowe to retrieve NetView task health information
    • New APIs that are available in the following areas:
      • Canzlog messages and message attributes
      • Automation table statements and automation members
      • Sysplex connection distribution statistics for distributed dynamic virtual IP addresses (DDVIPAs) and ports
      • NetView task health
      • NetView domains accessible to an Enterprise Master NetView program or a Sysplex Master NetView program
      • NetView commands
  • Providing modern user dashboards in IBM Service Management Unite, a service management dashboard tool that is now available with IBM Z NetView. These dashboards include:
    • NetView overview dashboard that displays all NetView domains accessible to an Enterprise Master NetView program
    • NetView health dashboard that displays key metrics about NetView domain and its tasks
    • Automation dialogs that provide the capability to create, validate, and test automation table statements, as well as manage automation table members
    • Sysplex connection distribution dashboard that displays connection distribution metrics and graphical views for DDVIPAs and ports
  • Providing integration with IBM Common Data Provider for z Systems® to enable analytics in modern tools such as Splunk or Elasticsearch for resource usage statistics about NetView commands (Command Statistics). Logging SMF records for Command Statistics can be started at NetView initialization, as well as dynamically.
  • Introducing regular expression (pattern matching) support for the following NetView components:
    • REXX function called MATCH
    • Automation table function (ATF)
    • PIPE LOCATE and NLOCATE stages

IBM Z NetView V6.3 provides the following additional enhancements:

  • Canzlog dynamic archive data space size. IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2.1, with APARs OA55071 and OA55074, introduced the capability to limit the size of the active Canzlog data space by allowing the data space size to start at 128 MB and dynamically grow in increments of 8 MB if NetView automation is falling behind. Version 6.3.0 of IBM Z NetView introduces a similar capability for the sizes of Canzlog archive data spaces that are used when browsing archived Canzlog data. The data space sizes start at 128 MB and dynamically grow in increments of 8 MB to a user-defined maximum size.
  • Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) support for changing passwords or passphrases. NetView currently has the capability to perform MFA authentication. This enhancement provides the capability to change MFA passwords and passphrases from NetView.
  • Network management enhancements:
    • z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology (zERT) support. z/OS Communications Server V2.3 provided the capability for the TCP/IP stack to act as a focal point in collecting and reporting the cryptographic security attributes of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (Ipv6) application traffic that is protected using the TLS/SSL, SSH, and IPSec cryptographic network security protocols. The NetView program provides information about whether a connection is encrypted, and if so, information about the encryption methods, algorithms, and certificate information including cryptographic key length.
    • Packet trace data in sniffer format. The NetView program currently has the capability to format packet trace data in a CTRACE format. This enhancement provides the capability to format packet trace data in a sniffer format.
    • Intrusion detection. This enhancement updates NetView's intrusion detection capabilities with current probe IDs that z/OS Communications Server supports.
    • OSA 7s 25GbE support.
  • LISTA command is enhanced to show where members reside even if a user does not have read access to all data sets. Additionally, if a user does not have read access to a data set, a new error status is displayed in the data set DISP column.
  • Capability to synchronize processing between different NetView tasks that are similar to the z/OS ENQ and DEQ functions. The function is called SEQUENT.

IBM Z Workload Scheduler V9.5

IBM Z Workload Scheduler offers the primary infrastructure to automate the execution of batch and near real-time workloads and activities that run in support of business services, helping to provide the reliable and Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliant delivery of those business services. When used in combination with IBM Workload Scheduler (distributed), it extends the automation into distributed systems, and manages workflows that integrate mainframe application with the distributed application (enterprise resource planning) and business intelligence applications.

IBM Z Workload Scheduler V9.5 simplifies schedulers' and system administrators' tasks with new advanced automation features, enables workload automation log data analytics scenarios by integrating with IBM Common Data Provider for z Systems, and introduces new optimization policies for the submission of noncritical jobs.

This new release also simplifies the installation and upgrade of the Dynamic Workload Console and IBM Z Workload Scheduler Agent with the capability to use container-based deployment.

Advanced automation features that can help simplify the tasks of schedulers and system administrators include:

  • New user-defined alerts and actions on operation start or completion
  • An easier way to customize Dynamic Workload Console dashboards

The integration with IBM Common Data Provider for z Systems enables IBM Z Workload Scheduler to stream its own log data, as messages and information logged to the Job Tracking or Database log files, to analytic engines such as Splunk, IBM Z Operations Analytics, and Elasticsearch.

IBM Z Workload Scheduler optimization enhancements address system overload and job interlock problems that can occur when the operations in plan are submitted very early in the process. The optimization of the workload through a smooth submission of the operations enables you to adjust the scheduling to meet the requirements of your network, prioritizing the jobs that are urgent or belong to a critical path. In addition, you can add a delay to the submission of the remaining operations.

IBM Service Management Unite V1.1.7

While all the components in the IBM Z Service Automation Suite are purpose-built to improve management of your IBM Z scheduling and automation processes, one of the more powerful components in this suite, Service Management Unite, plays a key role in simplifying the operation of complex workloads by providing visibility and control for your IBM Z-centric workloads.

Service Management Unite is a customizable management dashboard, bringing mainframe management information and tasks from disparate sources into a single environment. It helps operators triage alerts and take corrective action, including issuing system commands and viewing results, without going to a different console. The new update provides the capability to manage workload scheduler jobs and system automation resources directly together with automation policies and resources. IT operations teams can obtain an overview of automation and batch job workload for their most important business applications, identifying issues quickly, analyzing the problem, and acting to restore service.

  • Identify problems with consolidated summary views of both the workload scheduler infrastructure and the automation environment and gain insight about issues with the most critical applications, jobs, and workstation systems.
  • Provide single click, seamless, direct navigation to IBM Z Workload Scheduler or System Automation for z/OS to obtain more details for analysis and perform actions.
  • Eliminate the need to switch to another application or perform manual searching by directly providing the most relevant data for problem analysis with the use of APIs.
  • View automation domains with topological view of resource dependencies to obtain states of automation and perform automation actions against an automated resource (start, stop, suspend, schedule, view logs, and so on).
  • Launch in context from Service Management Unite. This capability is available to open specific Dynamic Workload Console reports that provide the average scheduler jobs and workstations to obtain status and predict job durations and completion; and to start, stop, or manage jobs that are failing, running slower than expected, or have failed. Scheduling plan models can be viewed with forecasting based on statistics and with the embedded IBM SPSS® predictive analytics software, an industry-leading statistical technology from IBM. Dynamic Workload Console reports provide the average estimation error and the standard deviation of the duration of jobs, with the capability to drill down into the historical data of the jobs.

New features and enhancements in V1.1.7

  • Service Management Unite Docker image. The Service Management Unite Docker image and the eezdocker.sh script are enhanced to deploy, configure, and upgrade current Service Management Unite server binaries in a Docker environment more easily.
  • Service Management Unite Docker runs on native z/OS. Provision and support of a Service Management Unite Docker image that can be deployed to an IBM z/OS Container Extension (IBM zCX) environment in z/OS V2.4 on IBM z14™ system hardware. Service Management Unite can run natively on a zIIP processor in a native z/OS address space. Extensive Linux skills and distributed server hardware are not required. The Service Management Unite container can be managed by using standard and existing z/OS procedures. More details about zCX are provided at the IBM Z Content Solutions website.

Service Management Unite IBM Z NetView enhancements:

  • Service Management Unite NetView overview dashboard that shows in a single, consolidated view all NetView Domains in the enterprise
  • NetView Utilization dashboard that shows key metrics about a NetView domain and its tasks
  • NetView dashboard that provides statistics and graphical views regarding the distribution of IP-traffic over Distributed Dynamic Virtual IP-Addresses (DDVIPAs)
  • New dashboards that provides the capability to manage NetView automation table entries and perform right-click actions on each row
  • New dialogs that enable administrators to create and test message automation statements and update the automation table

Service Management Unite IBM Z System Automation enhancements:

  • Enhanced group management views in Service Management Unite that enable the operator to better understand and modify the behavior of an automation group. An easy-to-use user interface gives the operator access to new group related functions, such as moving a member, changing roles, and excluding systems, without the need to switch to a 3270 console or use a command line interface.
  • A new dashboard that enables the operator to view and manage all critical messages and outstanding WTORs. An operator can delete critical messages and reply to WTORs directly from the dashboard.
  • New dashboards and functionality to view and work with IBM Z NetView information.

Service Management Unite IBM Z Workload Scheduler enhancements:

  • By integrating with IBM Z Workload Scheduler, a new component, Service Management Unite Workload Scheduler, is added as a part of the Service Management Unite Enterprise Edition to provide robust support for workload automation and scheduling.
  • A new dashboard, Workload Scheduler Overview, is included in Service Management Unite Workload Scheduler to give you a consolidated view and direct navigation to the most critical IBM Z Workload Scheduler managed resources such as workstations, job streams, and jobs.

Service Management Unite OMEGAMON Monitoring enhancements:

  • Capability to view consolidate event, threshold alarm data in single Service Management Unite health view dashboard from up to six multiple OMEGAMON TEMS/TEPS Server monitoring environments
  • Capability to choose an OMEGAMON TEMS/TEPS Server environment from a list of up to six OMEGAMON TEMS/TEPS Server environments for each monitoring dashboard
  • Capability to view and manage performance from all OMEGAMON monitoring agents in each TEMS/TEPS Server in the environment, such as z/OS, CICS, Db2, IMS, WAS, JVM, MQ, Storage, and Network

Service Management Unite web configuration tool enhancements:

  • Capability to configure properties to enable and establish connection with Zowe and IBM Z Workload Scheduler in the Service Management Unite dashboard.
  • Configuration capability that is required to view and manage performance monitoring data from multiple OMEGAMON TEMS/TEPS Server environments
  • New Service Management Unite configuration for the IBM Z NetView REST Server that supports viewing new data and performing tasks
  • Service Management Unite Zowe enhancements for exploitation and integration with Zowe:
    • Zowe V1.0.1, V1.1.0, V1.2.0, and V1.3.0 are supported.
    • The Service Management Unite plug-in is packaged as a .tarfile for easier decompression.
    • In MVS™ and JES Explorer dashboards, a dialogue is provided to assist you in easily accepting the certificate to avoid security issues when accessing Zowe microservices.

Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS, V8.1.0

IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS, V8.1 enhances data visibility, reporting, and change tracking. By supporting SQLite Database, it provides an alternative to the use of IBM Db2. It also delivers various platform support and administrative capabilities.

These enhancements enable the IT administrator to see the full spectrum of hardware and software data usage. By supporting SQL Lite, Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS, V8.1 provides an alternative to Db2 for clients who either do not currently have Db2 or who want, for other reasons, to use a different database option.

IBM OMEGAMON agents

OMEGAMON offering is focused on providing real-time and historical monitoring and availability management of z/OS infrastructure and key subsystems, such as IBM CICS, Information Management System, Db2, WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, Java™ Virtual Machines on z/OS, and MQ for z/OS.

OMEGAMON offerings include:

  • IBM OMEGAMON for z/OS, V5.5
  • IBM OMEGAMON for CICS on z/OS, V5.5
  • IBM OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS, V5.5

IBM Z NetView for Continuous Availability V6.3

IBM Z NetView for Continuous Availability, V6.3 is a major component in the GDPS continuous availability solution. NetView for Continuous Availability V6.3 provides monitoring and automation capabilities, helping to create an automated, cross-platform disaster recovery solution at virtually any distance between a primary site and a recovery site. These capabilities include:

  • Monitoring of the IBM Multi-Site Workload Lifeline product
  • Monitoring of replication products and other managed elements
  • Automation of events and processes to reduce recovery time and increase efficiency in the use of system resources

IBM Z NetView for Continuous Availability includes the following enhancements:

  • Multi-site Workload Lifeline workload and workload servers monitoring support for Linux on IBM Z, SNA application (APARs OA46516 and OA46519), and MQ cluster workloads (APARs OA51631 and OA51632)
  • Proxy database or file system configuration monitoring support that provides zero data loss when using mirrored disks between two sites and software replication in one site
  • InfoSphere Data Replication for VSAM for z/OS monitoring support for the apply exit name

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM z Systems® IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each z Systems® IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each z Systems IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each z Systems IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a z Systems IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each z Systems IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs.
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise.
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit.
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.

IBM Z System Automation V4.2.0 is the last release that supports Processor Operations LPAR Management ISQCCMD emulation over System Automation BCPii (Base Control Program Internal Interface) sessions. IBM Z System Automation intends to migrate over time all of its hardware automation functions that are currently using the SA-BCPii protocol to Processor Operations SNMP. This helps to ensure that all clients can benefit from the advanced SA-BCPii support in Processor Operations. The standard SA-BCPii protocol is continued for GDPS.

IBM Z NetView V6.3.0 is the last release that supports the following functions:

  • NetView Web Services Gateway (SOAP Server)
  • SNA Topology Manager
  • NetView task, DSIWBTSK, that provided support for the NetView Web Application Server
  • Correlation Engine
  • MultiSystem Manager support
  • CNMSTYLE Report Generator
  • NetView-NetView (NNT) task support
  • SECOPTS.AUTHCHK.TARGETID command authorization security option

IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS, V8.1

The basic hardware requirements to install:

  • z/Architecture® machine capable of running IBM z/OS V1.11, or later

IBM Service Management Unite V1.1.7

Service Management Unite can run in both a native z/OS or a distributed environment. For a distributed environment, the requirements are:

  • A physical or virtual system running Linux x86-64 or Linux on IBM Z, Linux ONE or Linux on IBM Z environment.
  • Two processors assigned to the system.
  • The minimum required memory (RAM) is 4 GB or more. For large environments, a system with a minimum of 8 GB RAM is required.
  • Disk space:
    • At least 10 GB of free disk space for a classic installation
    • At least 20 GB of free disk space for each Docker-based installation

For native z/OS environments, the requirements for running SMU Docker image are:

  • z/OS V2.4, or later, on IBM z14™ system hardware
  • Configured IBM z/OS Container Extension (IBM zCX) address space

IBM Z NetView V6.3

This section defines the minimum programming requirements for IBM Z NetView, V6.3 and its operating environments. Specific functions of IBM Z NetView might require products, higher levels, or later versions of the products listed below.

IBM Z NetView runs as an application on the z/OS operating system. IBM Z NetView support is provided at the listed levels or subsequent levels that are compatible with later versions, unless otherwise stated. Compatibility with later versions means that functions that are provided by the earlier releases are still supported.

Programming requirements for all functions:

  • IBM z/OS V2.2, or later
  • All functions using TCP/IP communications from z/OS require z/OS V1.12, or later. NetView-to-NetView communication: In a multiple-domain network or across multiple SNA networks, the IBM Z NetView program can communicate with another Tivoli NetView program, regardless of the operating system. IBM Z NetView, V6.3.0 can communicate with the following, at the listed system's level of capabilities:
    • IBM Tivoli NetView for OS/390®, V1.4
    • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2
    • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2.1

Function compatibility

Except for previously withdrawn functions, the functions of the following versions and releases are compatible with IBM Z NetView V6.3:

  • IBM Tivoli NetView for OS/390, V1.4
  • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2
  • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2.1

System definition compatibility

To facilitate migration from a previous release, IBM Z NetView host code runs with the NetView Management Console (NMC) Topology Server and Console from the following earlier releases:

  • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2
  • IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS, V6.2.1

For equivalent, non-system-dependent functions, IBM Z NetView operates with the REXX procedures of Tivoli NetView for OS/390, V1.4.

User applications, written for these NetView releases in accordance with NetView customization publications and using NetView customization services, are source compatible. A reassembly or recompile by using IBM Z NetView macro libraries is required.

If a user customization code is being migrated from one operating system release to another, a user code that contains system-dependent functions might not run and might require conversion.

Enhanced function support

The following IBM Z NetView functions and features require the specified program levels or subsequent upward-compatible levels unless stated otherwise:

  • TCP/IP connection management: z/OS V1.12, or later
  • IP packet trace formatting: z/OS V1.12, or later
  • Multiple concurrent packet traces: z/OS V2.1, or later
  • z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology (zERT): z/OS V2.3, or later
  • IBM Z NetView Enterprise Management Agent
    • IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.3.0 Fix Pack 7, or later, which bundles IBM Db2 Universal Database Workgroup Server Edition V10.1. For information about software requirements for IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.3.0, see the IBM Tivoli Monitoring: Installation and Setup Guide, SC22-5445.
    • Optionally: IBM OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS V5.3, IBM OMEGAMON for CICS on z/OS V5.3, IBM OMEGAMON for z/OS V5.3, and IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.3.
  • Application-Transparent Transport Layer Security (AT-TLS): z/OS V1.12 (Communications Server), or later
  • Mixed-case passwords: z/OS V1.12 Security Server (RACF®), or later
  • IBM Z NetView REST Server component: z/OS V2.2, or later with JAVA 8, or later

Server communications with IBM Z NetView using LU 6.2

For LU 6.2 connections, one of the following is required:

NMC Server Audit Log: To use a web browser to view the audit log requires a browser which supports eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL). Common browsers which support XSL include:

IBM Z Workload Scheduler V9.5

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program ID referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these programs with a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance. This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support by telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new programs.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless canceled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA IBM Z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only through CBPDO and ServerPac. These customized offerings are offered for internet delivery. For more details on Internet delivery, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

IBM recommends internet delivery. However, if you still require physical media, you can choose DVD.

Many products can be ordered in ServerPac the month following their availability in CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered through CBPDO and ServerPac at general availability. Many products will also be orderable in a Product ServerPac without also having to order the z/OS operating system or subsystem.

Shopz and CFSW will determine the eligibility based on product requisite checking. For more details on the Product ServerPac, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Software Maintenance

The following agreement applies for Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) and does not require client signatures:

  • IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011)

These programs are licensed under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. IBM Operational Support Services - SoftwareXcel is an option if you desire added services.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information about known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Support Guide.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. During the Software Subscription and Support period, for the unmodified portion of a program, and to the extent problems can be recreated in the specified operating environment, IBM will provide the following:

  • Defect correction information, a restriction, or a bypass.
  • Program updates: Periodic releases of collections of code corrections, fixes, functional enhancements and new versions and releases to the program and documentation.
  • Technical assistance: A reasonable amount of remote assistance by telephone or electronically to address suspected program defects. Technical assistance is available from the IBM support center in the organization's geography.

Additional details regarding Technical Assistance, which includes IBM contact information, are provided in the IBM Support Guide.

Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for:

  • The design and development of applications
  • Your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment
  • Failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

Software Subscription and Support is provided only if the program is within its support timeframe as specified in the Software Support Lifecycle policy for the program.

For operating system software, the revised IBM Operational Support Services - SoftwareXcel offering will provide support for those operating systems and associated products that are not available with the Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) offering.

Multi-Version Measurement

Multi-Version Measurement (MVM) replaces the previously announced Migration Grace Period time limit of six months and allows unlimited time for clients to run more than one eligible version of a software program. Clients may run multiple versions of a program simultaneously for an unlimited duration during a program version upgrade. Clients may also choose to run multiple versions of a program simultaneously for an unlimited duration in a production environment. MVM does not extend support dates for programs withdrawn from service.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The IBM Z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

IBM full-capacity ratings that can be found on the Mainframe Exhibits section of the IBM Z software pricing (z Systems Software Contracts) website.

Reference based: The required license capacity of a IBM Z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based: The required capacity of an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

z/OS based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

Reference based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with full machine based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each IBM Z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the IBM Z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

  • Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select IBM Z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be IBM Z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390 operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, see the IBM Z software pricing website.

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for z Systems Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for EWLC, TWLC, zELC, and z/OS.e License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for Amendment for IBM Z (z Systems Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing) (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of an eligible operating system and machine, for example, z/OS running in z/Architecture (64-bit) mode on an IBM Z, or equivalent, server.

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

On/Off CoD

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for IBM z Systems On/Off Capacity on Demand (Z125-7883) must be signed prior to use.

Variable charges: The applicable processor-based one-time charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed, the charge of the next higher group listed applies. For movement to a machine in a higher group, an upgrade charge equal to the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups will apply. For movement to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of charges paid.
